    New to UDK

    Hello everyone!

    I am completely new to UDK. I have lots of experience in DirectX and XNA and would like to expand to this environment and have chosen this engine for my University dissertation project.

    I would like to create a third person adventure game from scratch for my dissertation and would appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding tutorials, books, websites and the like.

    Thanks

    Check out the documentation section. The best place you could start with. Make sure that you read everything and go through each topic carefully.

      You'll need a third person camera setup, this thread helped me out quite a bit;

        Thanks PrimitivePatriot for that! I've added it to my classes folder although nothing has changed after a full recompile.
        Is there anything I have missed? Something else that needs changing in the .ini files other than the Default Game type and stuff ?

            Uhm, since when did UDK have anything to do with XNA or DirectX?

            Anyway, yes, there is loads and loads of documentation available, and it seems like it's pretty easy to get into once you've created a few maps, and imported in a few meshes and new BSP materials, etc... Trust me, UDK is not that tough to use.

              Here's a few notable sites to get more and more involved with as you progress:

              http://www.polycount.com/
              http://www.gameartisans.org/forums/index.php
              http://www.gamasutra.com/

              It's nice to see some demographics, so I'd check here every so often:
