    there's a setting somewhere in one of the .ini's that you can toggle to not compress the lightmaps. I wonder if that would help. Somebody might remember which one it is.

      Those 'splotches you're pointing at on the roof are actually a result of the 'cheating' the UDK does to light the dark sides of objects with a lightmap. The UDK renders out a normal/vector map that tells the shader what direction the indirect lighting is coming from. this often results in a splotchy look. I unfortunately don't have an answer other than "None of my clients have complained about it."
