Check out Waves - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAOcayM3U0w - He also has a thread around here in the Works in Progress forum.

    And while Whizzle isn't a SHMUP it's very similar - http://www.udk.com/elements/download...cument_1_2.pdf

    Go for it!

it's going to take major modification. You'd start by having the camera orient to show a "2d" view as well as auto-scrolling (and think about whether you want "wave screens" that don't scroll till all enemies are dead (a la Galaga), or continuously scroll (a la R-Type).

Then you're going to want to do movement speed modifications, probably using PHYS_Flying.

The last (and biggest) fundamental modification you're going to have to make is to the AI. They're gonna have no way of understanding the movement unless you specifically tell them how.

Oh, one thing that just occurred to me is that you definitely want your camera to be looking down from the Z axis onto the XY-plane. That will simplify the changes you need to make to your AI.

Yes you can. UDK is expansive like that. There are some tutorials on how to make a side-scrolling camera somewhere around here. you can do a search. In terms of vertical, you probably mean, climbing structures while playing, then you will need to set the physics to spider or flying. There are tutorials on that also.

Can I create a SHMUP with UDK?

Hello guys, I been wanting to create a game since three years ago and to do so I been studding many different fields. Now that I'm going to have free time I wanted to give UDK a try but I'm wondering if I can create a vertical-scrolling shooter with it.
Working...
