    Steamworks help

With Steamworks you are able to upload a game under development to steam (valve) to get a closed/open beta out on steam. i was wondering if you needed to buy the license for UDK (IE Royalty Licensing) first or contact valve first?

tbh, I'd work it out with valve first, then get the license

a commercial license for UDK is only needed when UDK is used commercial

Unless your planning on selling it commercially before you give it to steam works then according to what people have been doing and what seems to be the buzz no commercial license is needed. I'm not sure they'd have a interest in suing you for working on your games multilayer before you bought the commercial license and began selling it anyway.

You don't need a commercial UDK license for that, you just need to show your game to Valve and get approved by them for Steamworks.
The license is needed once you start selling your game on Steam.
