preparing udk game for lower spec computers

i have started to play around with multiplayer and hit a bit of a problem
my second computer is tbh a bit rubbish and runs udk game very slow
so what i want to know is how can i turn down the graphics so it will run smoothly on my old pc just for testing purposes?
does the resolution when you cook a map effect this?
what file am i looking for to change graphics settings on the final game?
is there a way to include graphics setup options in the game?
hope somebody knows something about this
    thanks

It sucks, but that seems to be the only way to set a lot of the settings.

You can also write in RC when testing the game to bring up the remote control. From here you can change a few things, including the resolution.

i got the best results for me so far, by turning everything -on-, but setting all the texture max resolutions to 1024 or 2048.. for some reason, as long as you have 256MB of video memory or more, it sets a bunch of texture resolutions to default 4096 max .. which is just not even possible for my card to deal with on a regular basis. Setting all the max texture resolutions to 1024, with a couple bumped up to 2048 (i don't know that my project is even using them that high quality ..) has managed to keep my frame rate at a consistent 25ish, whereas I used to sit around 20ish, with dips into the single digits.

It really depends on why you're having slowdowns. Mine ran slow simply because of the texture sizes that were being shuffled around in the lightmaps.

... you can make a settings form to adjust those values.

my old comp must be a bag o s**t, it was pretty powerful not all that long ago
i had to turn everything off and set the MaxLODSize to 1024
the main things that speeded the frame rate were MotionBlur and AllowRadialBlur
i managed to change these settings in the installed game by changing Engine/Config
                BaseEngine.ini

making some kind of settings app cant be that difficult, though it would take me a while cos i havnt done that kind of thing for quite a while
just a list of things with check boxes true or false and rewrite the file when you click ok
so if anyone feels the urge...

the ability to change some settings in the game would be ace??

thanks to the guys that just released a demo today, I am able to answer this question -- scale set [setting] [value] .. though that does not save it in the ini file.

You could however, create your own config, and have it set at run time ?
