Tip in Startup Tip doesnt work as expected

I get this startup tip that we can add simple equations in numeric fields. Out of curiosity i decided to try it but its not working as expected.

Here you can see i did exactly the way the startup tip say:


But instead of showing 1760 it shows 512:

I have found it works in some fields,but not all.i use sept 2011 UDK,so it has been this way for a long time.
