    APEX Poor Performance

    Greetings,

    I'm working in a project which required APEX clothing, and we noticed that it had severe performance issues. Once you get to play the character with the clothing enabled, it lags very badly. We assumed that we did something wrong.

    Recently, 3dmotive released a UDK clothing DVD (by Justin Hair) which talks about APEX clothing. I downloaded the project files to test in UDK FEB 2013, and I got the same bad performance issues, which indicates a possible bug(s) in APEX.

    I wish Epic addresses this issue since APEX clothing is an amazing addition to the toolset and we'd like to utilize it.

    Thanks!

    Here's a vid where I show the problem:

    In this setup, I have a MobilePlaceablePawn, with skelmesh, animset and animtree assigned properly. The walk cycle that Justin made keeps on repeating. You will notice the bad lag happening when I look at the character. Then I turn away 180 degrees and you will see right away that performance is back to normal. Then I look back at it and FPS drops again.

    The lag also happens in the animset editor while viewing the animation.

    Hope this helps.

      Are you using the version of apex for GPU or CPU
      There are settings that can improve the performance of apex if you are using it a lot in basesystemsettings.ini

        Using GPU.

        Since you dabbled with this, can you tell me what settings that could be useful to improve performance? Thanks!

          You can set the following to true
          bEnableParallelAPEXClothingFetch=True
          bApexClothingAsyncFetchResults=True
          ApexClothingAllowAsyncCooking=True
          ApexClothingAllowApexWorkBetweenSubsteps=True
          And set this to the frame rate you want
          ApexClothingAvgSimFrequencyWindow=60

            Nope, doesn't help. Performance is still bad.

            Edit:

            This is the apex clothing asset used for the 3dmotive tutorial:

            Using defaults, nothing special. If I'm missing something, I'd appreciate anyone pointing me out to the right direction if this is not a bug.

              Bump. Just wondering, will this issue ever be fixed?
