[SOLVED] Problem with latest Windows update KB2670838 & UDK ???

HI

I'm using the Feb 2013 UDK editor which was running fine the last time I used it (27th Feb), this morning - after an auto update from MS "Platform Update for Windows 7 x64 Edition (KB2670838)", the editor crashes on startup.

Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone know what's wrong & how to fix it?

I've got the .dmp file as well if it's required.

UPDATE 1: Just tested a clean/unmodified install of Feb 2013 UDK & it crashes in the same manner.

UPDATE 2: Seems like update KB2670838 is causing a lot of grief elsewhere and with other apps.
It's supposed to "improves the features and performance of the following components":

• Direct2D
• DirectWrite
• Direct3D
• Windows Imaging Component (WIC)
• Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform (WARP)
• Windows Animation Manager (WAM)
• XPS Document API
• H.264 Video Decoder
• JPEG XR codec

I'll try getting rid of it.

UPDATE 3: Uninstalled MS update KB2670838 and everything is back to normal - editor working fine again
(Control panel->System and security->Windows Update->View installed updates, select update & uninstall).

HI

Just another update/warning - I believe if you install Internet Explorer 10, it will automatically install the KB2670838 patch as well - effectively making it incompatible with UDK.
If you've installed IE 10 & uninstall the KB2670838 patch you'll revert back to IE 9 (or whatever you had before - I guess). Fortunately the uninstall of the patch (again) allowed the UDK editor to run.

Would be GREAT if this could all be fixed up for the next release!

hmm I had some windows updates last night and nothing changed for me. However I checked my installed updates and couldn't find any KB2670838 so I suppose that just wasn't among them.

Are you running Windows 7? If you Google KB2670838 you'll immediately get an idea of the chaos that update has caused.
