    Swarm always at 0% while building, no progress at all

    Hi all. Whilst working with UDK on my level I'v encountered a problem with Swarm - it stays at 0% and will not progress. It doesn't fail the build, it just stays there. When the level was smaller this wasn't a problem, but gradually it started doing this (it would take a couple of attempts for the build to start) but now it refuses every single time. I have just left it for an hour and it stayed at 0% until it finally failed the build. I am only half way through the level layout and I can't build the lighting so any help will be greatly appreciated. I have tried deleting the lightmass importance volume, making a smaller volume, making it bigger, deleting the dominant directional light even deleting every tree mesh and speed tree and it doesn't do anything. Building without lightmass (just static) works ok, but of course the level looks awful. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Windows 7 64 bit
    I7X990 @4.4ghz
    12GB Ram
    Nvidia 590GTX
    UDK November build

    In baselightmass.ini set ballowadvancedoptions to true then when building lighting you will have more options

      Thanks, but the options in there don't seem to be helping me much.

      Building the lighting with 'build static meshes' unchecked makes it build very quickly, so I'm glad it isn't the landscape size that is an issue. I have 8 "StaticMesh has invalid LightMapCoordinateIndex" errors in the lighting, but because the "go to" or "properties" function don't work, I don't know which meshes they are. Could they be the problem? If so, how should I go about finding them efficiently?

          EDIT - Ok, this is wierd. Copying and pasting all the static meshes into a different map still lets the map build. I have absolutely no idea where the problem lies now.

          EDIT 2 - Ok, that last build was a fluke. It's gone back to not building in a new map with all the static meshes pasted in, but I'm still clueless.

            Have you tried building lights after clearing Swarm cache?

              I cleaned it, then deleted some files in the cache folder. I moved them back when Swarm wouldn't load but now, my map just fails every single time. Every other map, like the showcase and example ones build fine but mine will not. I've tried my backups too, and they also refuse to build. This is the log contents -

              I'v just spent the last couple of hours selecting every type of static mesh I used, deleting them and seeing if the lighting built. It got to the point where there was hardly anything left before it would build. This is baffling, after deleting nearly everything, I had considerably less meshes than when the map used to build (about a week ago). Somebody please help?

                Bump.

                It seemed Zonealarm was a potential problem, as when I uninstalled that it built frequently. It is still uninstalled, but it's gone back to not doing anything. I'v just disabled the windows firewall temporarily, turned off AVG temporarily and tried again but it still will not work!

                  How large is your map? Comparing the numbers in your reports to the most crowded map i have(which isnt really that big but it takes a couple of hours to build with 4 core CPU and 4Gig of ram at higher than production quality settings) yours looks enormous. That lighting progress percentage appears while building my map and i see the progress bar actually moving once it reaches 100%, so i'm guessing you need more memory, considering you are also getting OUT OF MEMORY warnings.

                    I have 12gb of RAM - Could I really need more?

                    The landscape is 511 x 1021. There is a good amount of decoration done, but I'm still only about half way through designing the layout. It's a Sonic The Hedgehog 3D level, so unfortunatly it does need to be large.

                      The error is due to virtual memory why does it use virtual over physical memory
                      Try to disable virtual memory or make it bigger

                        I disabled Virtual Memory (pagefile) but it didn't work. However, when I increased the size to the maximum I could afford, it worked. Thank you so much Zeqzy! Hopefully the problem is permanently solved.
