    Vector Media

    Hey there,

    A couple of questions, here:

    1) Can you use vector objects (e.g. Illustrator objects) in Scaleform and expect it to work within UDK?

    2) And on a somewhat related note... can you import vector images like SVGs directly into UDK?

It'd be super amazing if either was possible.

You can't import Illustrator graphics into Flash and publish to UDK via Scaleform?

Why are you asking me? If you're giving me an answer with a question, then please stop doing that. This isn't Jeopardy.

That is a bit rude. Since you refused to answer, I am assuming you tried to import it through flash and it failed. Why do you need it to stay specifically as vector art?

It's not rude, skwisdemon666. I'm looking for a straight matter-of-fact objective answer. If you're answering a question with a question, you're not really answering the question. You're either just confusing people or you're putting them down for not knowing the answer. This question-dodging is obnoxious forum etiquette and it needs to be called out.

Anyways, I have not yet approached UDK with vector art, which is why I'm asking the community for an answer. I'm asking the question to see if I should even bother making vector graphics for UDK in the first place. I don't know if vector art can go into UDK directly or through scaleform.

I think you're reading a bit too much into it. It's the most obvious solution so I'd assumed you'd tried it, hence the question. Here, I'll chop off the first two words and remove the question mark:

import Illustrator graphics into Flash and publish to UDK via Scaleform
Now I'm not assuming you've tried (silly me) and I'm just telling you how to do it.

It seems obvious to the person experienced in Scaleform . To someone who's only got a loose handle on it, it's not as easy to understand. Posting here was my way of finding out if the community has done this already, and if there were any pitfalls or traps I should anticipate in the process of doing something like this. Flash CS5 hasn't exactly been the easiest thing for me to learn...

But anyways, no harm done . I'll give it a shot and post what I find.

Trust me my experience in Scaleform is limited. Currently I can't even get text to render onscreen.

I just figure Illustrator to Flash is easy, and Flash to UDK is normal. So the two shouldn't be hard to connect.

Okay so UDK doesn't know what to do with a direct import of an AI file.

Scaleform, on the other hand, seems to wrap around vector objects just fine.

Which is good because rasterized image objects like PNGs, BMPs, JPGs, etc. tend to do a lot of aliasing in a motion tween and it doesn't look very good. Vector images give me the upper hand in presenting the UI with a more professional polish because of better anti-aliasing capabilities. So it works out .

Now I just have to figure out if Illustrator will allow me to preserve the line stroke when I turn off opacity. It's a longshot, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask here (in addition to a google search). Would anyone happen to know how to 0 out an object's fill opacity, while keeping the line stroke like you can with vector shapes in Photoshop?
