    Query: Best approach to creating a layered HUD?

    Hi everyone, I just need some advice before I go any further with my heads up display. I've got my main HUD already set up and working ingame, but I just want to know what is the best approach on something.

    Sometime during gameplay my character will be passing through a volume or touching a trigger whilst running to activate a warning on the HUD to tell the player to press either left or right of an impending obstacle that they should dodge up ahead.

    Would it be best to create this warning system on the main HUD swf as a new movieclip or should I create a new swf for this warning system that can be layered on top of the main Hud during gameplay?
