I don't know if you are even able to set non-square dimensions for lightmaps in Lightmass.ini or somwehre else, but even if you could i imagine it would give you messy shadows.
So if scale lightmap non-uniformly to prevent wasting space, will shadows and lights corrupt ?

There's no reason that you would need to have a non-uniform scale for the lightmaps, sometimes it works better for texturing, but it shouldn't matter for a lightmap.
