multi material importation problems, please help :(

I've been having trouble importing multiple materiel Ids on A single mesh from 3ds max.

In 3ds max I apply a multi/sub-materiel and than i select the parts of my mesh that need to have different textures and set different material IDS in the elements, than when i export it out to UDK there is only 1 materiel slot instead of 3-4 that i set, what am i doing wrong?

Do you have actual materials applied to those material ID's? What format are you exporting? (FBX is the best choice)

ok i think i mentioned this in my old ut3 video's , it depends on what sort of mesh you are exporting, a multi/sub material works fine for a skeleton mesh , but for a static mesh you need to use separate materials and not a multi/sub

Multi/Sub-Object materials work fine on static meshes. It's also the only way to have a single mesh with multiple materials.

I export it out as a ACII, honestly i didn't even know UDK accepted FBX, and yes, I do have materials assigned before i export

Export as FBX, that should fix it.
