    3DSMax:Textures,materials and UV's Help

HI,I have modeled a mesh and have done animation with it.Its a custom weapon. Now My problem is how to do the textures and materials and UV's.I really dont know what a UV is but in the tutorial Geodav had he didnt show how to texture and do the UV's.It would be really helpful if someone has some information or tutorials on how to texture you mesh an do the UV's.Do i have to export it to Photoshop or gimp(I have both)? Is there an easy way to do this? I have no clue how i can do it Please Help. Thank you

All of your 'how do i' questions are too open-ended and would take any one person pages and pages to answer in any meaningful way.

Typically, you model first, then UVmap then texture before you do anything else. This includes skinning and animations.

The 3dsMax Help is a great place to start, if only to get some insight into whatever it is you want to do - in this case, read up on the "Unwrap UVW" modifier.

Making a texture is a fairly subjective affair, aside from the technical part of it (which it can get, depending on what you're trying to accomplish). Using the rendered UVW template, you texture (using whatever 2d graphics editor you want) according to what you want to model's surface to display given the locations of the unwrapped topology.

Though you have to start with your UVmap. So start there first.
