yeah, just remember not to import your assets into the same package as your game level--if you do that, then it will delete files from the package that aren't being used. Make sure to import those things to a separate package.

Just place them into the content directory UDKGame-Content

Why dont you just download blender? Its free for everyone ^^

    This will help you:

-all files are saved in packages
-always place them into the content folder
-you can create new assets when you klick onto the "New" button in the content browser

    Static Mesh Problems

Hey, This is my first post, I looked around a little but to no luck. I've been using UDK for about a week now, i've been able to do some pretty cool stuff. I'd like to thank the community for being so helpful when it comes to tutorials etc.
    So my problem.
As I said I'm new, and like many of you may be, I'm also broke. So I've no way to get Maya OR 3DS. I was able to get my hands on a few packs from somebody in the forums, Gaz611 or something like that, Awesome packs. I got chairs and shelves and all sorts of cool stuff I assumed would've come stock with UDK but I digress. I was able to import these files, .UPK , by clicking the folder in the content browser, and selecting them from the folder in my desktop. They then pop up in a new folder under packages as "External" . I can use these, but once I save and reopen they all disappear. Is this happening due to a wrong file type, or maybe I just have them in the wrong location? Do I have to have them in a certain file for the game to recall them when it opens? I've seen tutorials where you import the mesh file and textures and you have to plug them in, but i dont have seperate files, each file is a set of 20 or so items. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this has caused me much stress. Also, Any places to get free to use meshes (static or skeletal) that can be imported directly to udk would be great, as i dont have 3ds maya blender etc. i dont even have photoshop, but i do have dogwaffle, which despite the name is the same if not better
