    UDK:No light effects.

While following the tutorials from the book Mastering Unreal Volume I at chapter 3 you are guided to create a new level(Your First Room!!) after selecting create new level a "New Level Dialog" is supposed to pop-up to choose geometry style(Additive/Subtractive) which does not.I do continue by choosing blank map and can keep up with the tutorial until the lights part where I am able to put the lights in both the rooms(cube and cylinder) but the lights do not illuminate(I did switch the lit button in the perspective mode) even after following the tutorial and making the changes to pointlight properties. And the book continues with the same example so I need it to get right.
    My UDK version - UDKInstall-2013-02-BETA2

Please help! or you can suggest any alternate method to continue my tutorials from the book.

Use the editor provided with the book (Unreal Tournament 3). That text book is for a version of the engine that is now 6 years old.

Thanks for your reply. There should be some way to do same thing in the UDK.

Well, additive/subtractive modes no longer exist (only additive). If you're just adding point lights, they should illuminate any room you add them to by default. Have you done something like create a subtractive brush without first having an additive one to subtract from? It's very hard to debug your problem without being able to see it.

For the record, you're probably better off finding more up to date material or using the UT3 editor until you're more familiar with the tools - the fundamentals are still the same, but small changes are going to make it difficult for you to follow word-for-word.

Oh! that should be the case because when I tried to add light to one of the template map it worked and I did " Have you done something like create a subtractive brush without first having an additive one to subtract from?" I would insert the screenshot as soon as I am done installing the latest UDK release and creating the same. Thanks
