    Stereophonic sound with mono sounds

I've looked around for some help with this and seem to be coming up blank.

Whenever I drop a mono sound into a scene (as I want them to pan) I find that the panning is very harsh, is there a way to increase the width of the source sound in UDK or some work arounds? Or is this something that would have to be done externally through some middle-ware or custom script?

Its really noticeable if you have, say, running water and have a mono sound cue, then when you walk towards the sound/water if you move the mouse to the left or the right it seems to jump from one ear to the left.

Any advice in a general direction would be helpful

    No--short answer.

However, you can use the Distance Crossfade Node to design a transition from Mono at distance to Stereo nearby.

    Good luck.

Thanks Dannthr, I have been doing a similar technique, using mono sounds for up close and then transitioning to the stereo for faraway, but thanks for the feedback .
