Udk Lighting, How do I show a cone of light?

    Hi there,

I've started working on a personal project based on Balin's Tomb from the Fellowship of the Ring. (see image below)

I basically want to create that lighting effect. So far I have tried a few different lights and played around with a few settings. I have googled for quite some time trying to find out what I need to know but have had no such luck. All I want is to have a light pointed from outside the environment, through the small window which then has a cone like beam shining down onto the tomb.

If anyone can shed some light on this I would be most thankful.

This volumetric light effect isn't possible in UDK using only a light. The way Epic does this effect is with a static mesh and a special material. In the search bar of the content browser type "volume" and you should see the different static meshes they have in the content browser to achieve this effect. Use those or study them to make your own.

Thanks, thats pretty much the effect I needed Can you just explain to me what it is exactly you mean by a special material, I have the static mesh representing the light shining down but what is the material that you said about?

      Thanks

Take a look at the static meshes that epic uses, and find the material they use in the generic browser. You can use that as a basis. Personally I think it's too hard on the edges so I made my own.

Yea thats the exact problem i'm having with playing around with this one. Is there a tutorial you can point me towards? I've not managed to find much on creating this effect.

I don't think there are any light-cone specific material tutorials. Best bet is to just take the original and modify it, if you know the material editor well, you should be able to get some nice effects.

i like combining them with particle systems myself
