In real life, lens flares can still be seen even if you're not looking directly at the light. In the UDK, the flare disappears the second the light source disappears off the edge of the screen - it's kind of jarring, actually. Is there any way to make it more like real life - that is, have a lens flare for an off-screen light source that fades as you look at a more oblique angle?

I think there's ways to control that within the lens flare, based on position.
But what you can also do is scale the lens flare up. Like the actual lens flare object. That way it's a larger object and it will stay on screen longer even when its origin point isn't visible.
I've had a scene with a bright sun and so if something went in front of it the lens flare would go off, so making it bigger made it stay longer.
