miatribe repliedThis http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/Terra...dTextures.html was very helpful to me when I was getting results like you.

KenD repliedAnother thing that will help is blending in other material layers, i.e. dirt, rock, sand. Also add some foliage meshes to help break up things up a bit more. All of thee things can help reduce the tiling effect that you are getting.

xxfatmikexx13 repliedThe reason you see the lines when you are far away,is because, maybe your texture for the material doesn't tile right. Another one is,you have probably tessekated it too much, and what tessellation means when the amount of triangles(look at the wireframe of the terrain) tile.So when the terrain tiles more the lines of each texture being tiled are visible. Make sure your texture is 1024x1024 or 2048x2048 in resolution. Also make sure your texture CAN be tiled.

mtcoder started a topic terrain Material makes linesterrain Material makes lines
I'm working with terrain materials, and I keep getting a problem of lines forming after a short / small distance.

When I get close to the materials all is fine.

So it has to do with LODs or something like changes in the UV values? or would adding some randomness help? Also as you can see from the 2nd image its a really short time before it kills off the detail.
Thoughts?
Here is the material.
