How do i change the color of a static mesh during gameplay?

How do i change a static mesh's color in Kismet/Matinee. I'm following a tutorial in the Mastering Unreal Technology book and the author used a Set VectorParam action which is no longer available. The closest i found was a Set ScalarParam which does not let me change the RGB value of the material instance of the mesh. Is this something i need to set up in the material itself through interpolation? I've spent over an hour trying different things to no avail, please help. Also does anyone know why the Switch-Delay was removed, wasn't too hard to manually make one but seems a multiple delay switch would be a commonly used action.

The mesh is an interpActor also, still haven't found a way to change its color during gameplay. Is everyone busy on projects? Haven't seen many replies lately.
