    Space lvl?!

    Hi,

i am trying to make a space level but have no realy idea how to do.
after some reading and googling i found out cubemaps are the best way. but here is the point where it stops.

i have 6 images so one for each face of the cube but what do i have to do next? how can i use this to simulate a huge nearly endless space?

You need to scale down everything, ships, characters etc. otherwise you will soon notice that you reach the boundaries.

You could either build a box in a 3d program and put each of the 6 textures on their proper sides or you can align these 6 textures into a cross on one image, and convert that image to a full sphere texture using hdrshop.

i already have the "cross" in PS aswell in the UDK.

i have read something about making a huge cube and putting the texturecube via material on it. i also had to put a reflection vector on the UV chanel but this isnt working proper. in game mode i dont see anything and in editor it does not look like one room but like 6 different rooms.http://img80.imageshack.us/i/unbenanntvi.png/

This is expensive but looks correct. In Planetstorm we simply use the standard method of making our skyspheres really really big, the difference isn't worth the performance hit.

ok, thy, works fine. no black or white lines at the edges. only some black artefacts when spinning the camera, is this because of the huge gpu requirements?
