deco layers or manual placement, or stay in August, it was one of their suggestions

Anyone else went "What the..." about this?

They are probably going to replace it with something that functions better though.
Or they may have considered it legacy, due to a lot of legacy features being removed in this version as well as the existance of deco layers.

I've heard the performance on it was really bad, compared to what some would expect..

I had about 1 trezillion trees over 7sq km and it was fine. They all lod'd into nothing when out of sight....do the decolayers meshes disappear?

I don't believe it does it automatically, but you can just make the last lod, well, empty.

Wow, interesting move on their part. I thought that the DecoLayers were the legacy format, they seemed so proud of their foliage volumes. Let's hope they give us something back!

I've been testing with deco layers. They don't seem to LOD at all and also if you set the terrain Max Tesselation Level to anything greater than about 2 then half the deco layer objects disappear immediately. Increasing the Decorations Density to compensate slows everything right down

yeah i just removed the deco layer and replaced it with a foliage layer. Put in 1 and half bajillion trees and not really much performance hit, also they shrink away to nothing with distance and dont seem to be affected by the terrain tessalation at distances.
So i wonder what EPIC is going to do in the future?

i use a combo of deco layers (trees) and foliage volumes (bushes)
