Help on texturing a terrain

I have my texture selected in the content browser and I fully loaded it. then i go to my terrain editor and right click and then select "New Terrain Setup from material (auto-create)" but a box comes up saying "AddMaterial: nothing selected"

how do I get this working?

If you are trying to use a texture, then you need to create a material out of it first. Textures and Materials are two different things.
I'll assume that you know how to make a material, but if you need help with that part, let me know.

I'm pretty sure that's your problem, but if UDK isn't letting you auto create a layer from a standard material, this is how to make a Terrain Material and Layer manually.

Right click on your material (Not texture) and select New Terrain Material from the pop-up menu.
Choose a package and group name for it.
Right click on your terrain material and select New Terrain Layer from the pop-up menu.
Choose a package and group name for it.
That will create a new layer for you.
