The real problem is the tutorials and that book were not written to be used with UDK.
The warning is telling you that the Lightmass lighting system is looking for a LightmassImportanceVolume encompassing the area you want to build indirect lighting for. It should still build without one, though. It will just take longer. Make a cube with the builder brush that surrounds your level and then right-click on the Add Volume button and choose LightmassImportanceVolume from the list. That should get rid of the warning.
i know the book and UDK don't go together. it was the onl option i had. local shops hee suck and most don't carry UT3.
as for what you told me, i tried right-clicking on th eadd volume button and got nothing.

ughh.. i just got UDK for my Game Level Design class and i'm having trouble. along with the class i have Mastering Unreal Technology Volume 1. we're in chapter three and just learning the basics.
ok here's the problem. i go to build the level and i get and error. it says "No importance volume found - lighting build will take a long time." nothing happens. the level is never built. sometimes i also get an error that says i need to rebuild a light.
this is my first time with this program so i'm at a lost. i've redone the tutorials again and again making sure i did everything right but its the same thing everytime. anyone know what i'm doing wrong?
