    [Portfolio] Sean Moallem/Environment Artist

    Hey guys,

My name is Sean Moallem and I am graduating from the Art Institute of California - Orange County very soon and am in the process of getting my portfolio ready for graduation. I have been using the forum for some time now and have been getting some tremendous help for all of you with the questions I come across during the creation of my levels. That being said, I wanted to post my website portfolio here and would love if you guys could share some comments and critiques on what I can improve on.

Again I would love to get your guys' feedback and look forward to hearing from you!

That's really not bad, but what specifically are you going for? Level Designer or Environmental Modeler?

For instance, a Level Designer would figure out the layout, place objects, lighting, and Kismet type stuff, and an Environmental Modeler would create the actual objects for the level, buildings and props and such.

Hey guys thanks for the feed back.

To Echo-Leader: For the Operation Avalanche scene I was going for a "break of dawn" type lighting so some areas are getting filled by the rising sun.

Somthing similar to this but A bit higher in the sky:

To Darthviper107: I am primarily focusing on Environment art but Also Level Design/World Building. For my scenes all of the art assets were created by me (with the exception in Operation Avalanche where a colleague of mine helped create a couple assets. I have him referenced on the page).
As far as the sounds in the maps I looked up free sound effects online and used UDK's stock sounds where I could.
For the particles most were done by me with the help of 3dBuzz tutorials, but for the Gun's muzzle flash and Hit particle I used UDK's stock particles. Aside from that all of the Materials and Meshed are my own.

To MakiPL: I have yet to actually use the procedural building tool in UDK, but I have been interested. I may do a test level pretty soon just to try it out soon

Good job on the Namaki level. I love the details and environments. Nice job on the Deco Hotel, and Operation Avalanche.

Thank You Oblivion2500! The Namaki was a lot of fun to make and I had more creative freedom when constructing it. Operation Avalanche was based off of the old Day of Defeat Source map, "Avalanche" so I was a bit more constricted on what I could change without losing the feel of the old map. They were both tons of fun to work on though

                      very nice

really nice lighting, are all your mesches and textures selfmade?
fantastic atmosphere, it really has a sense of air, great work!

                        Thanks Allar!

                        Thanks freek3d
Yeah the meshes are all my own (except in Operation Avalanche a few of the meshes and textures were done by one of my colleagues, Brad Boyles) and for the textures I used photos for reference as my base and worked from there to get the effect I was looking for. In the UDK I would then push a lot of the Materials. Both maps also make good use of vertex painting to achieve variation without the need of numerous amounts of unique props (which helped cut down on the time it took to achieve the effect I wanted).

**** nice work indeed! Avalanche is exact, brought back memories of sitting above the second Ally cp with a 30 cal or in the church tower with a sniper rifle. The hotel looks excellent as well. Overall, you have some great pieces there to show.

                              Thank you Catbox!

                              Thank you KenD

Avalanche was a lot of fun to re-create (I probably spent far too much of my life on that game even in recent years!).

The Hotel Was my first 3dsMax only scene. The "art deco" theme was also a lot of fun to explore but I think my next challenge will be blocking out the low poly and getting that scene into the UDK.

Thanks again everyone for the feedback!
