    If you are a student, 3ds max and maya are open and free for you. They're also 30 days trials. Whatever, if you are not a student, blender or google sketchup(it's extremely easy, but you don't have so much control on the geometry and when you import a model in udk you see that it has 100k polys even if it is a simple model). K-3D is also great.

    I don't think Gmax has an FBX plugin, it might export to .ASE though

    But it's a piece of **** anyways, hasn't been updated in many years, better to go with Blender

    Gmax should work fine. You might need to grab the .fbx exporter.

    Blender is probably the most robust free 3D package but like mkTwo said, there is a steep learning curve.

    Try Blender, with plug-ins it can export to formats that UDK likes.
    The learning curve is quite steep though.

    Hey guys was wondering want kind of free 3d/anim software is compatible with udk doesnt have to be a animation software but would be nice didnt know if you could make ur own anim in udk or not.
