has anyone played around with this yet? im looking to make a nukeular explosion kinda like the redeemer but im not sure how to use cascade for something like this.

There are many ways to do this. You could spawn a mesh with no collision and increase its drawscale and add some flames
Cascade is the other option. Its somewhat similar to the UT04 System (Just looks very different with cooler functions). Im sure you can find some tutorials online. I believe Hourences has a basic crash course on it.

ya i found a tute on cascade but not exactly what i was looking for. it was only how to set up a flame. as that may be useful it's not exactly a mushroom cloud or a stone wind that comes off of one. i want to use cascade cause i believe it would look way more real that way. i can get a huge pillar but i cant figure out how to mushroom out or how to get the ring to come off in the center and bottom of the effect.
oh i forgot to say this is strictly for a cinematic it will use a missile but im not worried about that atm as that's the easy part. its all mostly just ascetic but it will be totaling a city.

I would really like to avoid useing meshes they just dont look as good. i could animate and set up a compleate nuke in maya but honestly i would like to avoid doing that as i would have way more problems working with materials in the mat editor but then from the looks of things it looks like im going to be doing a ton of work either way. this is turning out to be a very complex scene either way i look at it. (looks for his easy button.) but anyway if it comes down to it then thats what i will have to do. or just make it more simple.

since this is gonna be a cinematic anyway you should probably go for a combination of the two: core elements made with mesh, supplemented with particles for different kinds of effects (like the blast wave), thus using the strengths of both without having to work around an individual method's weaknesses. an example would be Fallout 3's nuke, for the most part it's all meshes with a panning texture on it, and a few sprites for dust clouds as far as i can tell.
i imagine you could even do something with the soft physics for the cloud expansion, if you really wanted to get freaky with it.

I am not sure can UDK make nuke like this the shock wave, explosion and smoke. If someone have done it might help you. I can's find the tutorial.
