30+ FPS on iPad 1st Gen Using Normal Spec Maps and Lighting Effects

I just put up a WIP video uploaded showcasing some early core gameplay mechanics in my interactive visual novel / storybook / game so far. For fun, I put in 2 higher resolution, animated skeletal meshes (of the same character), that have normal and spec map assigned with rim lighting, and managed 30 FPS (as shown in video) with no problem, on an iPad 1st gen and iPod Touch 4th gen. When framerate is uncapped, I get 45 FPS at the worst of times.

Granted, the level is just a slight mod of the default, basic, platform level, still, I am impressed, it actually looks much nicer than what the video shows. I will try and do a video capture later.

Unfortunately, my game won't be making use of the normal / spec maps due to style issues (and time).

    Feedback is welcome.

Looks like a cool control scheme! Your biggest problem is going to be CPU Draw Calls as you start to build out levels, as it's fairly easy to manage GPU shader performance. Good luck!
