3D Atlas of Barsaive [Earthdawn Tabletop RPG Map]

    Hi everybody,

If you've dipped into many of the Landscape threads around here you may have seen me digging around for info. Well, my project is at a stable, releasable state, and I'd thought I'd share some screenshots.

This is a 2017x2017 Landscape, from base satellite DEM data with custom landscape features edited in.

I have 5 full Landscape Textures (in 3 Materials layers). 4 textures have full Normals, Bump-Offset (parallax), and Specular maps (some of which are hidden in channels in other maps), and there's an animated Lava texture (with emmisive colors). All of the lakes and rivers also have animated (then masked) specular highlights to simulate water, and I have custom Meshes with a Water material for the Seas. Sky dome, depth-of-field, and exponential heightfog (atmospheric falloff) round out the effect. The terrain was taken from DEM satalite data of the Volga river basin near the Ukraine, and custom edited with a whole slew of programs to add 8 major mountain ranges and landform-features.

I plan on adding more "Atlas" like features and jumping into a custom UI, like place-able waypoints, click-able map markers which bring up a pic or some brief info on the location, and hopefully, markers which automatically calculate travel times according to the Game Books.

I really should start taking video, considering the animated effects. Enjoy.

I have earlier WIP images on the RPG forum for Earthdawn, which kind of gives a sense of my workflow.

Oh, and because it's neat to look at, here's a zoomed out view of my material network:
