I grew up in the deep south of the United States well poor on a farm. As a child, I remember going to the blacksmith (a REAL one, this man could make anything from metal) that would shoe our horses. With that in mind, I echo what Drelin's said concerning ... everything Drevlin said.

Secondly, I was a World Art Lead on Warhammer Online, and made the actual game art mafiadude1 tried to link. Here's the real deal: http://chrisholden.net/images/war_house03.jpg

With that in mind, TRIM EVERYTHING.

I, too, agree with Drevlin...but also, this may be because of the stage of development
but the pole sticking from the ceiling (which is going to be wood im guessing) isn't really "justified" to the structure of the building. for instance, the building may be made from concrete, brick, or some other form of rock but a random piece of wood sticking from the ceiling would raise some eyebrows if you follow my drift.

Just an idea but try using this picture as reference to the structure of your building..notice how the wood justifies the support of it:

Uhm, its hard to give you ref when I dont know where youre taking the scene.
I can ask you some questions that will help me help you:
Is it a wooden building or stone, maybe stone with a finish? Concrete, plaster?
From when is it from? Is it a living quarters as well as a work place? Where is it located? Near a river, in the woods, in a mountain pass?

I did flickr "Blacksmith" a bit and quickly found these that I kind of liked, personally:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/franksplanet/4099651298/ (cool wall here)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/druzli/4313771134/ (I like this one, but i think it might be mostly cuz of the awesome beard the dude has)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/10024613@N06/4853916729/ (Good ref for further props maybe?)

Mostly when I start making a scene I have something in mind and then I search for references to flesh it out more, so spend some time on flickr and google images

    Good luck

Yes thank you for your crits, this is my frist structure to do and I was going for simplicity, but It is very plain and boring. I did agree with the forge and chimney were too high poly they have been deleted for a re-work.
As for the walls, I am at a loss, any suggestions? or maby a refrence.

    Thanks,
    Justin

P.S. This was a 3 hour job over span of 2 day so not alot of time invested into it.

Very early wip, hard to see where it will go at this point. I think it would be benefical if you worked more on it before posting wips.

But fair enough, heres some crit:
Your poly distribution is a tad weird. The chimney and the stove has loooaaaads of polys and the walls are very undetailed. This is most likely due to the early stages of development, but I dont know what else to give feedback on.

... thats all i got, for now. Do post progress!
