The past few weeks I have given a UDK course at the education "FutureGames" in central Stockholm, and the students and I would like to present the UDK games that were made.
SpyBot
The player navigates a small spy bot through a space station on a mission to obtain secret information from the stations main frame and escape intact.
Traveling through a series of rooms, the spy bot has to solve puzzles in order to move on. By using his teleport function, the spy bot can switch places with cargo crates or explosive boxes that are used to push down buttons, open doors and crack open safes. Completion of each room will award the player with a colored floppy disc. Once all three has been collected, the player can access the main frame and download the secret information. It is then up to the player to escape in time before the base is sealed off.
Team: Niklas Strid, Christoffer Hedborg, Daniel Olsson, Niclas Halvarsson, Olivia Berndtzen, Lina Andersson
Phobia
In Phobia, the player takes on the role of a test subject at an experimental research facility.
Waking from sedation, void of memories, you are guided by disembodied intercom voices and generic messages as you navigate a series of increasingly complex and hazardous psychological tests within the mysterious underground facility.
The test chambers are designed to exploit, explore and study the deepest fears of the human psyche, and measure how the average human reacts in situations of extreme mental and emotional stress.
Surviving the puzzles and dangers of the laboratory test chambers brings you closer to overcoming your fears, and revealing the truth of what really lurks behind the one-way mirrors.

Iwon
This is Iwon, a 3rd person adventure game within the same category as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy. You play as a spaceman called Iwon who has crash-landed on an island filled with simple minded grass-eating creatures. Your mission is to collect ship parts to get home. You can either do this by exploring the world, or completing quests helping the locals. The game offers a minimum of 40 minutes of gameplay with 8 challenging quests.
Features:
* Explore an open game world
* Acquire Gravgun and Jetpack
* Find a unique AI
* 8 challenging missions
* Superboss challenge
Team: Maria Komenda, Filip Coulianos, Mathias Cecilgård, Hans Mothander, Robert Vikström, Jonas Wallin
Intergalactic Dentist of Love
The Intergalactic Dentist of Love is crazy popular! The dentist, who is loved across the universe must valiantly travel to the other end of the galaxy to treat a patient in distress. The mission turns out to be more difficult than planned since the dentist must avoid a mob of crazed fans with nothing but an anti-love shield to defend himself - or he will perish.
The player will be able to control the Dentist's ship through an arcadey top down shooter-style space odyssey in a world full of humor and one-liners. Rather than being focused on mindlessly spamming attacks, the game plays more like a puzzle in realtime with constantly moving pieces, so the player must learn and master how to make every attack count.
Can you handle the love?

- When we started this course the students had no game development experience, no experience with unreal. They just started their education, and this was the first thing real game thing they did. The course was six weeks long. And only the first three were used for actual education. Last three were used for building these games.
- Roughly six people a team. Designers and artists only. No programmers! Everything you see required either no or little unrealscript. The solutions weren't always as nice as they could have been (had they used Unrealscript), but it works, and it shows how fast someone with no programming experience can prototype an idea in Unreal, even with limited knowledge.
- To keep the scope small, we gave them Iphone limitations. So no normal maps, no fancy stuff. Diffuse/Emissive/Alpha only. Max. 24 MB worth of textures used. Max 7000 triangles in view at all times.
- It was not the idea to design the next tripple A most awesome game ever, but rather to design something small and manageable for a small team and with limited amount of time available.
