I made this post process shader just for fun, and to see if I could do it. I haven't played Valkyria Chronicles yet, but it's on my to-do list. I saw a let's play on YouTube, thought the game had a pretty look to it, and I figured I would try recreating their shader. I think it turned out pretty well.

In essence, this shader consists of three parts: The paper texture, the paintbrush texture, and finding the shadows where you'll overlay the paintbrush texture:

It looks like the game also does something with blending to the paper texture along the edges. I don't think that would be too hard to do. You would just need to add a mask and a final lerp before hooking it up to emissive. Have fun!

Edit: I don't know what's wrong, but ever since the forums came back up I haven't been able to look at the pictures enlarged. If you want to see the pictures better, you can head to my website: http://himekosutori.com/?p=450

Dont worry as i cant enlarge images too.
If possible can you post a litle more high res image of the shader as i dont see clearly the nodes names?
By paint brush texture do you mean a black and white photohop like texture?

Hi majic12. I think you should be able to see the nodes clearly if you check here: http://himekosutori.com/wp-content/u...rawnShader.jpg

As for making your own paintbrush texture, I would share mine, but I'm on the road with my laptop right now, and I don't have all my tools here. I made the paintbrush texture by following a "tiling texture" tutorial for Photoshop. I just took a standard Photoshop brush, and drew black strokes at a slight angle. After Thanksgiving I'll upload my own texture.

Just in case you (or anyone else) wants to give it a try, here's the texture I was using: http://himekosutori.com/wp-content/u...ushStroke1.png It's not extremely high quality, but it worked well enough for this experiment. Also, here's the paper texture: http://himekosutori.com/wp-content/u...perTexture.png I'd love to see any screenshots you have after trying it out!
