What happened to the grass you guys used in the videos? And is that stock UDK grass?

The game itself is fun, I bought it on friday. Waiting on the patch though

I purchased this game today, but man it was a huge disappointment. This looks like a school project to me; very poorly done. The animations are the worst thing.

Stand in line because LOTS of people want their money back too and as far as I know NO MORE refunds are available for this piece of crap game, but you can't complain because there was enough warnings everywhere.

Does the T Rex still goes thru walls and throw stones from his butt? and the stolen art is still in the game?

lol dude, I saw that they announced all issues being "fixed". Now, I'm not into dino games but I generally like to help UDK devs by purchasing their games. I really enjoyed every single game I bought except for Orion. The problem isn't just about bugs, it's about how the game is poorly designed and poorly developed with almost non-existant QA.

Don't. I'm actually laughing my *** off watching videos of other gamers playing this piece of crap on YouTube. I just searched around for reviews, and man this game is done. Every reveiwing website raped it hard. Try this to get an idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ2D7...eature=related

I'm remembering all this talk on a "triology" being in place, and the game concept is established since 1999, and all that big corporate talk ****.. then this is what we get. Complete BS. By far, this is the worst game that has been released with UDK.

I'm sorry to say this Praz, but game development is not your thing at all. Find another job.

They took their shots carefully (for trailer and all) but if you inspect the environments, you find that they are horrible and far away by light years from 'pretty'.

I'm not an expert by any means but at this point I feel this guy and his game are beyond any posibility of fixing or coming back from the awful spot he placed himself and his game.

No way man, no way. The game is a laughing stock out there, review websites crushed it (specially IGN) and youtubers already raped it hard so it is nearly impossible to fix it. The reputation is finished. Now I'm highly anticipating the next failure "End of the begining". I just can't f***ing wait.

I will make a video to review this game on my own and post it here as a revenge to my precious dollars lol.

Just for the record - it's much more functional now, after the massive patch they released last week. Sure, there were free UT mods better than this game back in the day but be civilized guys and go check the patched version out if you bought it previously anyway. It's worth a couple minutes of coop fun.

lol No, I'm reviewing Orion after the latest patch. I'll explain why this game sucks from a developer point of view.

End of the Begining is a highly anticipated failure by another company (supposedly) called SnakeTakes. Google it my friend, you will be shocked I guarantee you that.

If this was a free game that you and a few mates had done in their spare then I'd say well done for getting a project to completion, fair play for putting in all that effort.

    But it isn't and you havn't so I won't.

    Good luck

That sounds great, but regardless, their project is going to sink badly unless they fix all the issues that we know of. My best guess is that they won't, because they don't seem to give any regard to the feedback they get from this forum or elsewhere.

The project is going to sink because there's no experience in their entire team, and it shows.

Isn't that sad? I mean is hard as hell to get funds and they manage to make it according to you guys, the ideal state for me is keeping the original team (not like the douchbag OP of this thread) and get on board some heavy-experienced guys so the original team can not only keep working but learning from the new ones.

I still feel Orion needs a bit of devil's advocating here - someone sure worked hard on that game after all, even if the... ekhm... upper management there isn't that likable. The game has some very good particle effects even compared to real UE titles, no idea who their vfx guy is since they're not allowed to talk to the public but he (or she) has done a very decent job. The music is also top-notch. I'm liking the simplicity of their menus as well, now that they work properly. Frankly what the game lacks the most at the moment is some point to its gameplay - right now it gets really boring after a couple rounds. I'll wait patiently for the future patches though, 'cos it's a study of a UDK-based game's lifecycle and that's something this community should be definitely interested in.

Well.. about the UI If by simplistic you mean copy and pasting the clik widgets then sure.. i mean for the server browser list they used the exactly same AS3 Clik widget with out even making a single change

1- The music doesn't fit. It could work as menu soundtrack, but to use the same couple of tracks ingame? It's irrelevant and extremely boring. Specially that soothing part of it where it feels like I'm calling some company and they put me on hold. This is not just my impression, but alot have criticized it including IGN.

2- The animations are completely terrible. The run cycle is ridiculous. The upper part of the body is fully static. The lower part's motion looks like some advanced version of a pengiun. The firing recoil (which is using the SkelControls) is obviously set up wrong, and looks hilarious. Also when you jump (or fly with the jetpack) the entire body becomes fully static so it looks like a flying statue. In some weapons the hands of the character doesn't hold the gun properly, the sprint animation is insane, the idle animation looks like it is dancing in a hilarious way, and so on.

3- The lighting, especially in the interiors, is absolute garbage. It's pitch black everywhere (although there is sun light hitting the ground and some bright lights around), shadows are so ugly and low-res. In the map that has a night setting, the moon light is too bright so the environment becomes lit more than enough. I think they have no clue on how to scale the indirect lighting or setup a proper environment color or AO parameters. So instead of putting just a little effort on reading the Lightmass document UDN, they decided to increase the dominant light's brightness.

4- All the levels are using the same assets. It's like they made only a single environment, and then made 2 variations of it only with different lighting setting (sunset and night) and different level design. That's it. What a shame.

5- There are things that don't make sense. Why are the dinos attacking the generator? Why are the levels too big when I actually can't go further away from the generator? Otherwise, it'll get raped by the dhiaria of dinosours and I'm supposed to guard it.

6- Figuring out how to upgrade your weapons is a mission on its own.

7- There is more crap I don't remember now.

So who's to blame? Management. There is no QA. How dare he releases the game in such a terrible state? If he doesn't know that it's not ready to be released, then it's a disaster. If he knows that it sucks yet he released it, then I don't know what to say. In both situations it is absolute BS. I feel sorry for the team that is under such a blind, inexperienced leader. I feel sorry for those who believed in this project and donated to it.

With all due respect Sir, I think Orion needs to be in the Recycle Bin.
