    Question Which Script Editor do you use?

    Which script editor do you guys use?

    Is nFringe hands down the best? Can I use it to play around with, then try another editor later without paying?

    For Unity its very straightforward, use Visual Studio Express free with no complications or limitations.

    nfringe is best at this point without any doubt. It has best features. But, other editors are closing up the gap quickly (especially UDK IDE that is stickied on this forum).

    Even the ability of right clicking and seeing the call hierarchy (what calls that function/variable and where etc) is a huge thing. I think next UDK IDE update is going to add a lot of parsing features that supports things like this. Few other things and it'll be up to personal preference at last, rather than being crushingly good than anything else.

    IMO you can use nfringe while developing your project just fine. Buy the license when you get close to the release (or after). As long as you buy it once you go commercial should be fine. Besides, the stuff you work on may not end up being a commercial project after all. This is of course only valid if you're a first time developer with no commercial experience.

    Also this is just me contemplating, if you want to go by the book, you have to buy the commercial pack if you ever "intend" to commercially release the project you're working on, regardless of whether or not it may end up being non-commercial.

    notepad++ for me. I don't really have money to spare and I wanted to jump straight in, so I use notepad++ and the unrealscript user-defined language
    some kind of intellisense would be great but so far I've not ran into a need for it, I just scout through class hierarchies to find variables or functions at my disposal.

    I use Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 with nFringe and Visual Assist X. It takes some customization and configuration but the result is great.

    Add another for WOTGreal. As has been said before, check blade[UG]'s tut for setting it up; it's no harder to set up than nFringe and far less bloated, plus it's free to use even for commercial use and 45 bucks gets rid of the intro screen, well worth it imo.

    Not used to Unreal IDE or Unreal X-Editor and I have had problems with them.
    So I stick with Notepad++.

    I never use just one editor, I always have one or two for when I cross reference, if I have acouple each of different colours then I know which version Im working on. Itd be nice to have more control over the filetypes and what they do inside the editor especially in relation to uci files.

    I use UDKDevKit by Mr. O. Dhuzar based on Visual Studio. Best in my opinion

    I read editors in the title but I ended up reading about IDE's :/

    I use GVim for Windows.

    context with the highlightor here. Customized the environment a bit to make it feel like notepad but running the highlighter

    WOTgreal is so winning this poll and it's not even in the list! For the latter I call blasphemy, burn the OP witch unless he fixes the poll!

    So yeah, would be nice if you could edit (advanced edit) your OP and fix the list, if you want actual usable results.
