    Default Incendiary Grenades just got a damage increase

    Didn't see this posted anywhere, but Pete Knepley (Senior MP programmer) just announced this on twitter:

    "Incendiary grenades buffed today. 2.5x more instant kill radius and 1.25x steady damage from fire on the ground."


    Sounds like it could be fun! I'll have to try them out now....


    Other updates from Pete's twitter about the incendiary buff:

    How does the new damage compare to before?
    128 unit kill vs 48 unit, 48 is one player width. Should be 6 second kill instead of 7.5 sec when standing in fire at full health

    How does the buff affect campaign and horde?
    campaign unchanged. horde should pick up the changes.


    Is this a temporary change or permanent?

    Response to complaints about the new incendiary buff/ defending the new changes
    Still way less than frags

    frag plants also way more powerful than fire plants due to the radius. fire plants might actually work now

    It's been an internal feeling for a long time to be honest. It was underp'd. It got taken out of drydock, sucked on thrashball.

    Grenades are supposed to have utility. If there's nothing worthwhile on the map besides boomshot, all strats are the same.

    2.5x more instant kill? Do you think that's a bit much?

    Not sure about the increased radius for insta death. Although I completely agree that it needed more damage on the ground.

    2.5x more instant kill radius!!! Man I feel like these things always get me no matter what I do already.

    I swear I'm the worse at judging where they are going, when people throw some from long distances, I will track grenade, and some how still manage to roll into it.

    I like this. I think the Kill Radius is a good buff. Simply because it makes it more comparable to a Frag Nade. If you guys haven't noticed the Incendiary nades keep getting taken out in the swaps in maps. I like the Incendiaries and I think this makes them more useful.

    I wish they would do this. The Ink Stun is so dumb. You get smoke stun you can move around but the Ink paralyzes you? Give me more damage and wider area so it can be used as an "Area Denial" Weapon.

    well, my favorite weapon just got op...guess they really are the playmakers now, honestly i dont think they needed to buff the kill range but the damage on the ground being buffed is good seeing how these are the area of denial nades now

    Agreed. I still get stunned when I roll away and the grenade lands nowhere near me and it feels cheap to get kills that way. I prefer the Gears 2 style inks.

    flame grenade tags are weak....had a guy killed me, and when it switched to his view he triggers a flame tag and survives -_-

    My buddies and I just got tripeld by flame grenades while playing KOTH, I was like forever away from the nade. It'd be kinda cool if the damage increase was just added to very ranged throws, but this seems too much maybe.

    About time. I was sick and tired of people roadie running through the radius of 1 incen without dying after the initial burst hit the ground, took two just to be successful if they weren't dead dick. Now people might actually make more of a push to go for them instead of just the Inks.

    TBH, I didn't think the Incendiary really needed that kind of buff.

    I was hoping they'd increase the damage of the Raining Fire of the Incendiary.

    I'd had a good few incendries not get even close to killing people last night when I threw them a mere couple of feet wide of the target.

    Welcome change imo.

    I wonder if this is a return to the beta settings. I got fire kills during the beta a lot - but when the full game released it seemed harder to "hit the mark". Perhaps they decreased the radius after the beta and are now buffing it back up? This should be fun - loved flame grenades in the beta but haven't used them as much in the full game.

    Plus I hardly saw them be nukes at any point of any match I played. Some people are good with them, but they're far from being nukes.

    Actually frags do have a downside - they are relatively easy to avoid. Incendiary grenades are much harder to evade in general, and will kill you instantly, while the frags have a delay. That's why in some situations I prefer Incendiary grenades and Frags in other situations.

    I agree, not so much with the nuke thing but yeah I love the Incendiaries much more then Frags. Killing with them felt better then with Frags. Never plant them though. Seemed like a waste.

    5th most kills for me behind Gnasher, Lancer, HB, and Digger. May move up to 4th if this change sticks.

    Try avoiding my frags. It's not as easy as you might think. I'm not bragging or anything, but I don't waste time aiming or things like that.

    Incendiaries stay on the ground, and can easily kill a weakened opponent. Me and my friends have a strategy for this. One guy acts as bait, lures them into a spot with two or less ways out of it, and we throw an incendiary at the exits. He pulls out his Gnasher, we Lancer them down, they have nowhere to go.

    Not to mention, they can kill multiple enemies as well, assuming they're tightly packed. They're frags mixed with inks, IMHO.

    Maybe you're just not that good with Incendiary grenades, or are using them wrong? There are lots of situations where Incendiaries are preferable to Frags.
    Just because you prefer Frags doesn't mean someone lies when that person says he/she prefers Incendiaries.

    They are very good on KOTH for example, I get plenty of kills on the ring with them.

    Still wouldn't you think the strategy you said works the same with frags, or even inks?

    I mean, you can do the same with frags or inks. I'm not saying they suck, especially after this buff I'll have to see how they play out, but saying they're better than frags is not true.

    You're completely entitled to your opinion, but I refuse to believe you're actually serious. Preferable to frags? lol.

    They are useful, but not preferable. I prefer frags any day. And I'm not the only one. On most maps people don't even bother to fight for incendiaries.
