Default Request: Guns, lots of Gun (tutorials)

Hi, I'd like to learn how to make guns from the ground up. I just started using 3ds Max, but haven't completely grasped it, let along rigging and texture work (I don't even completely know what "rigging" is...)

Every tutorial I've managed to find on the subject starts a few steps in, with the mesh set up already, or is just about importing to Unreal.

Does anyone know of a good, true beginner tutorial on the subject? Something as simple as building a pistol from scratch with blow black?

I'm just learning crates and barrels right now, but animated weapons is a bit different.

Thanks in advance for any help!

These are not a "true beginner" tutorials but they help you .once you learn more 3ds max you will be able to make any weapon of your choice.

I feel this is the one thing that is lacking from the documentation.

It would be really awesome if the UDK had a WYSIWYG editor that would make it easy to add new weapons.

well you could get a 3D Max model from a website like TurboSquid or 3D Realms and use that to practice the riggin and importing

theres tonnes of free models on them sites

you could always go back to learning to model a weapon later. thats what i do, nick 3D models lol

if you watch my weapon videos you'll see i use a very simple mesh, so start with a box+cylinder (like i did as a kid) don't forget to uvw map it and apply a texture

please use the link on my website as the files on Filefront my be removed so i have space for my game content.

@joker_47 make sure you use the scripts from the UDK\UDK-2009-11-2\Development\Src folder as most of the scripts from the UT3 source won't compile

You obviously know next to nothing about game development and 3D.

UDK is a development kit. It's not a 3D modeler, it's not an animator package, those are very different and separate beasts.

An application like 3DS Max is a 3D content creation package. It can be used for modeling, rigging, skinning, animating. Packages like these are what you use to create content for games, UDK or any other engine.

In addition to a 3D content creation package you'll need a 2D app like Photoshop to make textures so you can import them into whatever package you're using and create materials.

Making assets for games is not a simple process, it's no magic button.

I see a lot of people like you coming in here on the forums who know nothing about game development and voice your disappointment when you can't find the magic button in UDK.

You should go check out some easier tools to use for creating simple little games, UDK is a professional solution.

What made you think I was disappointed?

I am well aware on how to make models in 3DS max and texture them in Photoshop.

I also don't think it is too far fetched to have a WYSIWYG interface that can add new guns and weapons. After all there is a lot of graphic interfaces in UDK.

Off the top of my head the here is what could be done.

1 input for the gun meshe
    1 input for ambient animation
1 input for fire 1 animation
1 input for fire 2 animation
1 input for fire 1 particle effect
1 input for fire 2 particle effect
    projectile speed

There are so many panels like this in UDK so why not one for adding guns
