Default Unable to Use Existing Gamespy Account to Login

UT3 tells me that the password I enter for Essobie is incorrect and that I should go to www.gamespyid.com to fix the issue. I go there, have that website send a password reset link to my planetquake.com email account and that goes off without a hitch.

I reset and change my password, confirm that I'm actually logged into gamespyid.com as "Essobie" and then go off to UT3 to finally log in and play online.

Nope... still says my password is invalid.

So how do I fix this? I'd like to have my gaming nick the same in this game as every other game, and as far as I can tell I actually have staked claim to the username already... but for whatever reason, I'm unable to use it.

I'd like to have the game email whatever email it thinks is tied to the "Essobie" username with a password reset link (like every other system in the world works), but because they are relying on gamespyid.com, I have no idea how solid their username uniqueness is... or even if I'm the Essobie UT3 will accept in the first place!

Is this even the right place to ask about this stuff? I didn't see anywhere on www.gamespyid.com that you could actually ask for help... it all leads to a bunch of IGN.com owned tech support stuff that is not at all relevant to usernames for Unreal Tournament 3.

Unreal Tournament 3 uses a different namespace than the gamespyid.com website. You will need to create a new account from inside the game.

I tried that already. When I type in my email address, it says that the account information associated with that email address is different from what I've typed in, and it won't let me go any further. And that I should go to www.gamespyid.com for further assistance.

As you can probably tell, I wasn't able to get any assistance other than telling me what I already know: the username "Essobie" is associated with "essobie @ planetquake . com", along with the ability to reset the password to whatever I want through their interface.

I'm not going to go out and create special email accounts just so I can create a profile for this game... it's silly to expect that of a customer. Not only that, but if I did create a new profile, the name of the profile couldn't be "Essobie" since it's already "taken" by me... even though I can't use it for some reason.

    Makes no sense at all.

i also was confused, since there is no warning in readme about different "namespace".

But i can give you a tip how to associate existing account with "new one".

Start game, and create in-game account, use same name as u have in Gamespy, use same password and same e-mail, this will add UT3 name in your existing gamespy account, and since this name is identical to what u already have they will sorta merge (not 100% about this, maybe its just because e-mail and password are same) u will also able to see your friend list from Gamespy Arcade or Comrade.

Its 100% works, and it will not register new account it will update current one, just remember to use EXACT SAME GAMESPY-NAME, E-MAIL, PASSWORD from your existing account during in-game registration)

You'll note from what I put in the original post that this is exactly what I did. I went to gamespy, found out the email and nickname associated with the account, and then used all of this information to log into UT3. It did not work. It tells me that the password for that username is invalid.

The only thing I can figure is that the account I have on gamespy actually has a different username associated with it for use with UT3... the problem is: how do I find out what that username is if gamespyid.com won't tell me? All it thinks is that my username is "Essobie".

Something, somewhere, needs to be able to send me an email at my email address saying "This is your username and password for Unreal Tournament 3: XXXXXX/YYYYYY".

If I can't get that, I can't play this game online without making a new profile with a new email address which I don't want to bother with.

I don't think I'm asking all that much.

man as i told, create new account in game but use all info from existing account, this will NOT create new account (if u will use password, name and e-mail same that u have on existing account) but will update your existing gamespy account so u can use it with UT 3.

I explained it here with more details:

    http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=658353

in your situation u should run UT3, press on "create profile"

    enter your user name: Essobie

enter your password from existing gamespy account
enter your e-mail from that account on gamespy u already have.

to finish press "create profile", and now u will be loged in UT3 with your old existing account.

Until u will make this done u will be always unable to login

To paraphrase, I did exactly what you suggested. I went to gamespyid.com, logged in with my gamespy account, and then used the username (what Gamespy calls "nickname"), email address, and password from that very account to try to log in in UT3 (not create a new profile... actually log in with the existing account).

It did not work. It says the password for that username is invalid and that I should consult gamespyid.com if I am having problems. If gamespyid.com can't give me the correct "nickname" that I'm supposed to login with that matches the email address I have set aside just for playing online video games, well I just won't be able to play this game online.

I was able to create a profile using my email address, but I had to do some pretty silly things to get it to work. I basically went to gamespyid.com and logged in using the email I wanted to use, then changed the email address in that profile to something else.

Then I went into UT3 and created a new profile using a different name than I really wanted to but using the email address I did want to use.

    Profile created just fine.

I now have a support ticket on gamespy.com to see how I can get the username I actually want to work... if that works out, I'll just go in to my new account made from my new profile, change the email address, and start over from scratch.

Otherwise, I'll continue playing under this new name. I'll probably wait until the uberpatch hits though.

Since Gamespy has a habit of simply not answering their support tickets at all, I won't be getting my actual username any time soon.

There were roomers that when the mega patch hits (which I believe they announced was going to happen March 5th) that login would transfer over to Steam login, but I seriously doubt that would happen given there's at least 5 people who still play UT3 from before it was on Steam, and they likely want to get to keep THEIR logins.

So no, there's no update on getting it to work, outside of doing the overly complicated nonsense I describe in the previous post.

There is a networking issue that prevents some installations from even connecting to GSI, or to the internet period -- and are giving UT3 Players new and old the same kind of problem you have. Take look at this thread...

Seems gamespy gets upset and messes up the access code if i choose to
disable my network adapter when not playing any games, even when it is re-enable and computer is rebooted and later i would like to 'play' i can not, then even with re-entry of my legit code, i get a msg that it is incorrect and i need to log on to game spy to fix it to play. I even reloaded the game, and it seemed ok until i shut down my live connection in between games. This leads me to believe that gamespy is accessing my computer when i am not playing the game, or they wouldn't know that my computer was disconnected from the web, regardless of their motives, i just want to play the game, and not be bothered by gamespy. I purchased ut3 to enjoy the game, and now i am denied the use of it because i try and protect my computer from "spys" and virus and choose to disconnect my internet, once in awhile... So, how does this issue get corrected, can i choose not to join gamespy, and still play the game without re-installing it every time i go off-line? ... This really ruins a great game... Gamespy does not reply to this, either
maybe i could file a complant to epic? Or join a class action suit against gamespy? All i want is what i paid for, to work, like the old ut games did.

yes your right totally right, i would be very curious how to use an account and play UT3 online without Gamespy too.
maybe when using another master-server? any ideas?

dont like gamespy, its not spyware but just dont like it how i am forced to use it. (dont like steam too)
i prefer it the same as in UT2k4.
