OK. To be clear with my thoughts...
I dont want to be offensive to MS and Epic.
I have respect for them that They gave me such a good game like Gears.
I'm enjoing their product very much. I'm thankfull and glad that they made such a fine game to play and watch.
I'm not whining about anything at all except that patch/fix for me and others to get our problem fixed.
I love GoW and I'm lookin forward to see GoW2 on PC (my very own dream).
I love UT3 and all UT series. I'm good with all Epic installment.
All I need is a patch/fix for GoW, and GOW2 on PC in the near future and my whole world will be perfect.hahaha

SALUTE ME ! ! !
I started to reply, then realized I was talking to someone named "dudemaster supreme"...
i'm having the same problem.. installed gow and ran fine for several weeks. i went to play and got the "cannot run with modified .exe reinstall" tried to unstall through the cd and the control panel...still couldn't uninstall. i can't install or install...it's a good game but it just ain't worth the headaches...i'm stuck with microsoft for my os...but i will never buy another microsoft product again
My games machine is also my media center. Yeah, with a good quad core, you can do this pretty well, and I get to game on my 46" plasma.
If I change the date, it will mess up the TV recordings going on at the time. In fact, it will probably totally confuse media centre.
Any suggestions on what I can do? I was about 2/3rds of the way through the campaign when this issue arose. I'd really like to keep going and finish the game while I still have the vibe.
Currently it feels like I went to see a movie, and I got told the end of the movie wasn't ready yet, so I'd have to wait, with no indication of how long I'd have to wait.
I'm a big fan of Epic, and GoW is yet another great game in my opinion. But, workarounds like changing the date do not work for all of us.
(And the workaround of changing the date makes a mockery of the original protection anyway. Perhaps someone has a script that changes the date for just long enough to start GoW, and then set it back so my Media Center works?)
COME ON PEOPLE OF EPIC !!!! IT HAS TAKEN TO LONG FIX IT !!!![]()
YEAH....the FIX is HERE and it works like a charm! Get it on the GOW main site....Now back to 'killin somethin'!!!Thanks to Epic and MS!!!!
HELL YEAH BABY!!! WOOO!!!
Get fix! ---> http://gearsofwar.xbox.com/pc/qfe1.htm

The certificate went out of date epic is aware of it and is makaing a patch for it. Everyone has the same problem just set your calender bacl to jan 25th and you can play it no problem.
EDIT:

SALUTE ME ! ! !
Download this update and it will fix the issue
http://cdne.gearsofwar.xbox.com/uplo..._Microsoft.exe
You guys do not have to fix the time for any reason. Don ever try to do so as it may affect then other applications on your computer.
corem, I have this problem too, only thing that helps is reinstalling windowsI made a thread for it and no one from Epic helped me. Looks like im gonna reinstall windows. GL
I've downloaded this already and it wouldn't help.
I'm seriously thinking about what TEAPACK said but I dont want to reinstall and format my Windows for the problem with only one game. :<
If there is no hope for the GOW to work nice and smooth again - i'll do it.
But now I can wait for a couple of days.
Maybe someone can help.
(cleaning up registry and deleting all GoW reg files? ... i don't know)

SALUTE ME ! ! !
what error you getting exactly?
I ran into a nasty error where it says something a bout registry entires being missing when ever I tried to patch the game.
Anyways to fix it I did this:
Search for a FirewallInstallHelper.dll file on the disc itself.
Copy that file into your windows/system32 directory
Your GOW should uninstall and install correctly now. If it takes ages to install you know everything is gonna be fine.
My Error?
I've got the same error msg about Modified Executable Code.
I'm thinking... "Hey! Holy $#^%!! The new Fix is on the net! I'll uninstall GoW, install it again in fresh folder and patch it with a new fix!"
I did that but with no good results. Changeing the date didn't work for me.
I've got the same error after patching it just like before the fix.
(Even when I install the new Gears and patch it.)
When I click and run the Fix it gives me msg:
"Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found.
No update done since file contents do not match."

I found a fix if ur having trouble with the new patch. Go to ur game directory and look for the backup folder. In that folder is a startup file. I believe its named startup.a64 or something like that. Delete ur startup file in the binary folder. Rename the startup.a64 file in ur backup folder to "Startup" place it in ur binary folder and run the patch it worked 4 me. U DO NOT need to reinstall the game. Hope that helps
I downloaded a demo for Unreal Tournament 3 from nVidia's nZone, and I got this same exact message when I tried to play that. Now I have this message for Gears (which sucks because I just bought the game -- haven't even played it yet), but I am currently following all of the steps previously listed (reinstalling), and I hope that it will work now. Wish me luck!![]()
Just got the patch, and it made the game work fine. Best of luck with everyone else's troubles!
There's a simple way to fix this problem. Simply adjust date and time settings (let's say, 1 year to the past). This will fix this unbelievably annoying error. However, some people had problems playing online after doing this. Therefore, while in the game, change date and time settings back to the present, which will allow you to play online.
Cheers!

That worked. Thanks
Hello,
I have not played gears for a while now and when I re-installed I got the modified execute code error. I have tried all the fixes posted on this form and I have downloaded the update. The game still does not work. does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the game to work. to say im p*ssed off is a slight understatment, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you
Big Joe's Temporary Workaround
Works on XP x64 with installation in default folder....for other directories you must modify .bat file to reflect your on installation
I have created a .bat file that will let the game run.... the problem is an expired
certificate... this batch file does 4 things
1. gets current system date.
2. changes system date to 01-01-08(prior to certificate expiration).
3. Starts Game.
4. restores system date upon game exit.
anyone wanting a copy of this Batch file email Big Joe at youremailaddress@insightbb.com
