Default Server browser replacement (mIRC script)

    Hello mates !

For those who knows FavUT or SkQ4, you will understand quickly what kind of server browser mIRC script I am talking about...
For those who don't, just have a quick look on my previous mIRC scripts : http://www.sexyfraggers.com/page.php?id=4

SkUT3 is ATM a VERY fast and lite rip of SkQ4's first 2 tabs in order to wait for retail game without suffering the horrible crappy ingame server browser...
Of Course, it will grow to reach FavUT and SkQ4 standards by the future ...

    Screenshot :

Link to download it : http://www.sexyfraggers.com/skq4/SkUT3B1.zip

Sorry for bugs (if any)... I did it in a RUSH !!! (2 evenings)
I will upload new versions as quickly as my free time allow me

    Have fun !

EDIT : The "launching game" doesn't work because UT3Demo loggin stop my command line
Have you an idea of the command line to launch the game, login and open the IP straightly ?
I will correct my run routine when I got the answer ! Thx !

    EDIT2 : How to install ?
Unpack the SkUT3 directory in your mIRC directory.
Type in any mIRC window "/load -rs skut3/skut3.mrc" to load the script in mIRC.
A popup will ask you if you want to “run initialization commands?” => click YES

    EDIT3 : New version B1
    Bug fixes :
    - Fix display of server port instead of query port
    - Fix ping column sort
    - Fix mIRC recent versions (6.3 and maybe older versions) directory bug

    Added features :
    - Copy IP:Port to Clipboard
    - UT3 status of player by typing "!ut3" in an IRC channel

I still not have the correct command line to launch the game via a command if it is possible

    Thumbs up

Both favUT and skQ4 were great ! Considering the actual Server Browser, this can only be GREAT.

    A must have !

Is there something similar that doesn't require mIRC? Even a site based on java/flash would be more responsive than the current ingame browser.

For the big mIRC noobs, where are the instructions for installation and use?
    More specifically,
"dialog: 'skut3b' invalid table, in 'size' (line 51, SkUT3.mrc)"

    God bless you!

Epic, give this man a job!

It looks like the game will be released with the retarded server browser. I see quite a bit 'third party' server browsers released in near future...

I'm wondering about this myself. I tried a simple shortcut to open a map offline (same goes for an IP) with all the parameters, but I don't know the correct parameter to call the login and password.

The map would open without logging in and thus have standard settings.

For those with no clue, extract the skUT3 folder from the zip to your mIRC folder. Start mIRC and type in a channel: /load -rs skUT3/skUT3.mrc

Confirm with Yes and the browser is installed.
Right click on your screen and choose skUT3.

    And it works

I would encourage everyone to try hanging out in IRC, it is a great way to build and keep momentum in the UT3 community.

The UT3 community is currently on the irc.gameradius.org network in channels #ut, #ut3tdm, and #ut3ctf.

If you are new to irc, the easiest way to get on is open a new server window via File->Recent Servers->New Server Window and type in text box at the bottom:

    /server irc.gameradius.org

    then to join a channel

    /join #ut

I do hope that they fix the server browser by release, there's no way they are going to release the game with a non-functional server browser.

I wish I was that optimistic. The broken parts of the browser will probably get fixed, but its still going to be the same featureless disappointment that it is now.

To the OP, nice going doing a better job in two nights with an IRC script than an entire company that spent three years on a multi-million dollar game could do. LOL.

    LOL

Actually, given the size of the company (Epic) they are doing quite good job with GoW.

I am sure that GoW is sucking most of the resources. The PC release date is Nov. 6th so I would guess they are more concerned with that title at the moment.

Great work. This is already a significant improvement over teh demo's server browser, even tho you say you just did a quick gloss on your Q4 script. Good stuff.

Good job! What are the chances of being able to see who's in each game? Major missing feature from both browsers

I haven't had a chance to try this yet (work work work ), but one of my clanmates tells me that it mis-sorts ping in the same fashion as teh demo server browser - alphabetically rather than numerically. (E.g., both 18 and 180 are sorted before 24.)

Does it join servers correctly if you're already logged in, with the game running in the background? Or is that non-functional either way?

I still have to try this out, as it stands now anything is better than the browser that came with the demo.

    Thx for the script welcome.

Unfortunately this script is - as the ingame browser - very altered by the crappy gamespy query protocol and a few issues (dynamic port...)
I hope that EPIC will fix those issues and enhance a lot their server query protocol else (for example) it won't be possible to show players on a server.
(until modders create "query extension mods")

ATM, I am very embarassed to find how to run and join a server through a command from windows. It will allow me to do a 1sec fix on my script and replace my
    "run -p $UT3d $+ UT3Demo $1-" with the correct arguments....
    PLzzzz :'(

    New beta version of SkUT3 : B1

    Bug fixes :
    - Fix display of server port instead of query port
    - Fix ping column sort
    - Fix mIRC recent versions (6.3 and maybe older versions) directory bug

    Added features :
    - Copy IP:Port to Clipboard
    - UT3 status of player by typing "!ut3" in an IRC channel

I still not have the correct command line to launch the game via a command if it is possible...
Don't be too harsh about current status of this beta script... I hope it will get benefit of retail version of UT3 and more time to work on

Which would be great if Epic would add a paste function into the console! Thanks for making a functional server browser...with a favorites even - revolutionary I tell you . The ingame server browser barely even functions. It's just full of servers with 0 ping, servers with no name, etc. It's amazing how big of a step backwards Epic seems to be taking with things like server browsers, pasting functions, decent UI, etc. Hopefully they'll correct these things and at least make them as good as UT2004.

It took one IRC person a few hours to create a server browser FAR superior to what Epic/Gamespy came up with.

Thanks. (and shame on Epic for going with Gamespy, what a f*ckin' mess you've got us all into!)

The much, much larger community, we might add....

    700 ppl in #UT3 300+ in #UT3.TDM

When will Americans learn to come to the real IRC network?

That just makes everything complicated for scrim requests, pugs, etc..

    Skorpsss,
Your script connects me to the gameserver (when I right click, then "Join server on UT3Demo"), however it does so with some sort of default login, settings etc.. because it doesn't log into my user account. You probably already know that, but if not now ya do. I assume it would be possible to launch from command line with the same arguments for account login as a server-
    Code:
    -Login=xxxx -Password=xxxx
Maybe a text file or window that prompts for that info on script setup could allow users to enter in their account info?

If I could only find a free version of mIRC, I'm a broke student, my money goes to beer, not $20 software..

Edit: aha!, Beer money saved once again.

Sounds like you have your priorities straight!

But...but...what if you had to choose between eight 12-packs of cheap but very quaffable beer and buying UT3? Then what?

Hahah. Actually, getting UT as a gift, so I don't really gotta pay. But as it turns out, my knockoff IRC isnt mIRC v6+...

    EDIT:
validated my mIRC, progress, now if I could figure out how to get it to work. >>> /load: no such file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\mIRC\skut3\skut3.mrc'

I've extracted to the directory under the App Data, as well as the Program files. I am stumped for now. 6.3 and everything.

Looks great, joins the game too, but no controls.
I also dont know how to paste the IP: port in UT3.
Am i suposed to write the IP: port down and enter it manually or am i asking too much too soon.

    Great work still,

    Peppy
