Hippygoth, they share the same kernel, thats why SP2 says xp x64 and 2k3.

    crap someone already said it.

The problem is that our requirements are different from his. We want the executable to be both secure and work... granted if it's easy to crack there isn't much benefit of it being there.

lol its funny how someone that does hacking and cracking as a hobby is able to out smart all the professionals.

Just let us play for the time being with this exe since its a beta and then you guys can play create a new one secured for the full release or regular demo

    Ok, figured it out.
For all those that wanted to call me a liar, heres proof.
    http://img504.imageshack.us/my.php?image=unrealkz0.jpg

Now whats needed right now to make it work.
Apparrently epic left the debug version running, thats why I could run it on my main pc with debug kernel installed.

I did a clean x64 install and got the same error that everyone else did.
the fix is to go to the ms site at:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtoo...tall64bit.mspx

    download the file http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/s...4_6.7.05.1.exe

And yes that works for intel as well.,
    Install it.
    run windbg you just installed.
    open file, open executeable
    Pick the unreal exe
now keep hitting f5 until you get the ut3 graphic, then just wait
    Game should run

I'll try this when I finish installing 32-bit. FYI -- that screenshot says SP1. I was having trouble with SP2 (64-bit).

yeah I just did a quick install
I didn't install service packs, .net or anything but just video drivers, sound, dx
I'll install sp2, but it should still work either way.

Well if you have SP2 available could you install it and retry just so we can rule that out? Not a huge deal -- like I said, I can try it on SP2 in about 20 or 30 minutes when this other install finishes. Thanks for all your help with this, too.

Well it appears to me, the x64 and Server 2003 issues took Epic by surprise, I don't know if that's because it was never compiled for them, or it was simply never tested on those platforms before release.

I'll be brutally honest and say if I knew where to get the hack, I'd be using it. My gaming buddies are up and about fragging each other right now.

I do expect Epic to get this fixed pretty quick, they've normally been good at getting these annoying bugs ironed out. The beta demo has done it's job. Epic are now aware of these issues and are working on fixing them. I don't think it's what they initially expected as a result, but better now than in the gold version.

lol same here, i would have downloaded the hack ages ago. All i want to do is play the game right now and get this over with with the modified error code. I would have a better experience if this hack were available than to leave a bad taste in my mouth with this error.

That AMD debugger doesn't install on Server 2003 (32bit)

Instead download the 32 bit debugger: http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/s...6_6.7.05.1.exe

    Works here. THanks Arson!

To be honest, it's because we didn't test on them. In hindsight this clearly was not the smartest move. Lesson learnt!

You're dead on. The issues we were concerned about didn't show up (*knocks on wood*) and we (or rather you guys) ran into ones we didn't see coming. We'll get it sorted out. After all, we all want the same thing, which is everyone having fun playing the game :-)

I think there's some confusion. Arson's new fix (about to test myself) is to be applied to the demo after it's installed.

If you were getting the error during installation then look upthread for vogel's post explaining how to get it installed.

The (noted) problem with that fix is it only let you install -- you still couldn't play the game (UT3Demo.exe). Arson's fix is for the installed game and not the installation package. I think.

It's good to know the best do learn from mistakes, and have the balls to admit a mistake. Kudos all round.

Well, the fix posted by Arson is working on my system. I'm going off to kill my buddies...

Nice job Arson, Vogel, may I suggest a sticky with Arson's info as a workaround?

Arson's fix doesn't quite work for me. I'm posting the debug screen here to see if maybe he can make some sense of it. One thing that stood out to me was towards the bottom there is a line that begins like:

    NOD32 protected {MSAFD Tcpip {TCP/IP}}

I'm using NOD32 as my AV. I've added the entire SysWOW64 directory to exclusion, the entire UT3 directory to exclusion, and all DLL files to exclusion.

Do you think that might be the problem I'm having? I inserted ##### where there was either a break (hit F5 to continue) or the final error message. Here's the wall o' text:

'Run as administrator' to get the install to work.

Then use the debugger to get the game going.

Hopefully this will mean that Epic can get to work on a fix?

Also, the game is AMAZING, it's so much more than I'd hoped for, and looks great even without all the extra shiny stuff, really looking forward to this game.

    Just gonna pre-order it now

Edit: Heh, turns out I have already pre-ordered it.

I posted below what it looks like for me when running the game.
If you see something on your system that isn't listed below, application, or whatever, might try closing out that application and see if that helps.

I did as minimal an install of x64 as I could so there wouldn't be any other apps to interfere.

    Executable search path is:

Okay, your fix kind of works, It gets the game running, but after the intro movies and the main menu comes up, the game crashes. Let me know if you would like to see a log.

Yeah, it's something else then. I just got back from uninstalling NOD32 and rebooting and I still error out. The debug line about the NOD32 protected file is gone but I still get the Modified executable code is not allowed.

oh... Great, now the Microsoft site doesn't open for me! :\

Anyways, I'd love if Epic could released a fixed Demo version!

Now whats needed right now to make it work.
Apparrently epic left the debug version running, thats why I could run it on my main pc with debug kernel installed.

I did a clean x64 install and got the same error that everyone else did.
the fix is to go to the ms site at:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtoo...tall64bit.mspx

    download the file http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/s...4_6.7.05.1.exe

And yes that works for intel as well.,
    Install it.
    run windbg you just installed.
    open file, open executeable
    Pick the unreal exe
now keep hitting f5 until you get the ut3 graphic, then just wait
    Game should run
    WORKS!!!!!!! YEA!!!! Nice Find!
