    Default UT3 PS3 release

(sorry folks but the thread on Midway stating that they "expect" a delay in the PS3 got accidentally deleted when one of the forum admins was trying to delete a particular post so here's a repeat of what I posted on this subject)...

As a public company, Midway felt an obligation to its shareholders to let them know about the possibility of a delay. Our goal is still to get the PS3 version of UT3 in stores before the end of 2007. However, we will only ship it once it’s ready and is the best game we can deliver.

In addition there is some good news as a little extra time in development means that now the PS3 version will have all of the same maps as the PC version whereas we previously expected to ship a fewer maps on console.

The PC version is still on track for November with a downloadable demo to be made available prior to retail release.

Hmm...i would have thought there would be an obscene amount of replies already on the slightly more confirmed release date.

Is there a demo coming for PS3 this month or the next? When you say it is on track for releasing by the end of 2007, does that mean that you guys are still trying to get it out on the planned november release? I thought the reason not all the maps were coming to the ps3 wasnt because of time, but because there wasn't enough RAM in the PS3. This is a timed release, so the xbox 360 verion will be delayed x amount of months depending on how much the PS3 one is delayed?

No, the PS3 will not get a pre-launch demo.
And no, we won't see a November release of the PS3 version however it will ship with all maps and nothing being cut.

there was a quote about them not having enough resources... in light of what mark said, my guess is the "resouce" was time.

wouldn't a demo release be more encouraging for you to build that PC all the more faster.

Mark Rein, we trust you and your dedicated team can make it happen! If you could just get it out before Christmas it'll make the best Christmas Gift!

And a lot of PS3 owners happy!
    Keep up the good work.

Huh? Seriously it's quite challenging to understand what you're getting at most of the time.

I think you mean that the demo will be out the same day the game is? The demo will be released before the game.

Thx for the update. Unfortunate for the PS3 guys - and probably Epic as well, as I'm sure they'd love the holiday sales and a bit of a Xmas vacation.

    Question

Do you think if it is delayed that we will get PS3/PC cross platform play?

I doubt they will have the time to work on this, they already try to just launch the game.

Nice to hear that the PC version isn't delayed

I would rather have a complete game later than a rushed version that is buggy or missing components. I'm really hoping for a 2007 release if possible, but only if it's done.

  30. #30

    Default That stinks

I was so freakin ready for this game. I just got my gaming mouse and keyboard for my PS3 lol, but I'm afriad, and sure if this game comes out in Q1 I proly wont get it. I know that sounds bad, but I have other games I want that come out about the same time, and theres a lot of um. The only good thing this did for me was free up some money for Guitar Hero 3 this month.

No. Epic already said it won't launch with cross-platform, it is a possibility for the future though.
Mark talked about it on a video here.

    EDIT:
    Here's what Mark says:
(From the BeyondUnreal IRC Chat with Epic Games)
    Quote Originally Posted by IRC

MarkRein[Epic]: There will not be cross platform play at launch
MarkRein[Epic]: Allow me to elaborate on this one...
    * MarkRein[Epic] is getting a can of soda
MarkRein[Epic]: The biggest challenge in doing cross platform play is syncronizing the builds such that the build on the PC is 100% compatible with the build on the PS3. Unfortunately (or fortunately) when you games on console you have a lengthy certification process to go through each time you release anything new... We looked at how this would impact our ability to respond quickly to things happening at internet speed on the PC side of the equation and realized that would not be in the best interests of our very loyal PC user base because we would constantly be holding on to updates to wait until they passed cert on the console platform
MarkRein[Epic] Our PC fanbase is of ultimate importance to us.They are our bread and butter. We can't let them down or compromise their experience in any way to accomodate cross platform play.
MarkRein[Epic]: This doesn't completely rule out adding this feature at some point in the future after the game has settled down and we've been through a few updates, but even then the likelihood is small.
MarkRein[Epic]: So there you have it.

UT3 is going to be awesome whether it comes out this year or next, I cant wait, Nothings going to make it any less fun, whenever i play it! Theres lots of games until whenever it comes out, im sure if you wanted to, you wont be as bored as you'd think. Only You let You be bored :P

I am curious why we will now get all the maps when it was stated before that the PS3 wasn't capable of running them smoothly? Was it simply time you needed to optimize? Or is UT3 gonna ship with extra ram chips for PS3 now?

As for cross-platform play, Mark said that the biggest hurdle was 100% compatibility between the builds.

So since the PC version will be coming out before the PS3, would there be chance that a stable build could be completed for PC before PS3 ships it's final build? Possibly with cross-platform play?

I mean why not start everyone out on the same build and allow the cross platform play. Then.....if and when a patch is needed, simply update the PC build so as not to alienate us. Sure ps3 users will have to wait for the update but UT has always had a pretty sophisticated server browswer, wouldn't be hard to filter out PC servers or PS3 servers if at a specific time, cross platform play wasn't available. It would just get "turned on" or "turned off" a handful of times until a final build for all platforms was released.

yes, plus the fact that Sony are releasing a new PS3 SKU for $399 USD in october. (worst kept secret) This definitely has been confirmed by employees working at Best Buy--they took pics of their database inventory application.

This game would be the best FPS to get with a new cheaper PS3

wow i wouldnt expect so many positive replies, i was thinking there would be more flaming. But i guess thats because most ppl on the forums are getting it on the PC anyway.
Anyway like the rest, glad its not affected the PC version cos we all know that the PC is Unreal Tournament's favourite child

Take all the delays you need. As said by several other people (Who are not those impatient, demanding folks who want Everything, Now ..) I too would rather wait a bit longer for a polished game that's Done, than wait less and get a less-than-it-could've-been experience.

Yeah I'd rather wait and have it max out the PS3's potential then to have a half pie game that is a shadow of the PC version.
