Default pet peeve of the moment: misleading names

of all the things i cant stand, its when arrogant pricks come into servers, call themselves "newb" or something along those lines yet obviously own pretty much everyone there

like just a few minutes ago i finished on a dm server in 1st place with 30 kills in 7 minutes and so i see some guy called ultimate-newb (probably with some weird capitalization algorhythm) and in just 3 minutes he has like 22...

your opinions? i personally think that anyone who has to disguise themselves as a newb is just completely insecure as a person and makes them look like *******s. point is: if youre going to call yourself a noob, you better play like one

Lmao, were you playing on a demo server as "haha" last night? I saw you there asking that guy to change his name, lol. I was aliasing, like I usually do on DM pubs.

    but why

dont you realize you just wind up appearing as a player whos insecure about their skills

that kind of mentality is even worse in some clanned people - its like theyll alias in case they lose, but if they win theyll put on their "1337" clan tag to show everyone theyre "1337"

    :bulb:

and no im not that "haha" guy but apparently he has a point

True n00bs don't call themselves n00b, they call everyone else n00b.

I really don't know why I alias in DM pubs, it's not really because I'm insecure about my skill as I can win most of the time in pubs. I think it's more of a routine, it's not like I don't want people to know I alias because I leave xfire on, and anyone who has me on their list can notice I'm aliasing. And no, I have never unaliased during a game to show how "1337" me and my clan are.

Default yeah it can be annoying

yeah I find it annoying when people that are pretty good at the game have that kinda names....with noob in it......I'm not sure why...personally I guess I feel like I'm being made fun of......and if you say that its a joke.....well I don't see how it is funny.......but anyways I hold no grief toward them....its all cool...

I sometimes alias when I'm learning a new gametype or something - I don't want to embarass myself. It's quite interesting the difference in play style it makes. When I'm using my real name, I get much more atatched to the game. If I alias, I can play without feeling the need to win as much.

So... if I name myself KickArseLeetSOB and you kill me a bunch will you feel better then?

Rarely do I notice names, and only then to know who's kickin' my butt. Don't much care what the name is... just need to watch out for that one at that time. duh.

Quit complaining about stupid little details. Who cares what his name is. Do you only play people who are terrible or are you just scared of a little challenge if you're good then you'll beat him no matter what his name is.

So people shouldn't be allowed to call themselves whatever they want. Yeah Right. In case you can't guess my nick on INA is an alias. :haha:

Maybe he just felt it was fun to call himself that, I'd say the reason why your're so upset is because you underestimate these people by what they call themselves, half hoping that you can have frags you can brag about. But in return you get your ass served to yourself in return.
In any case my advice to you is, next time you see people calling themselves n00bs, try to maintain a fragging distance from them.... then you'l have a good game.

So what if he calls himself ultimate noob?
You┤re just pissed because he played better then you.

Edit: And no,though i call myself noob here,im not using such a name online but if i did...none of your business.

I alias because I enjoy it... but then again everyone I play knows me anyways because I use one of four different names which they know me by.

try and ignore it, some people get thrills from winding people up, I know it's hard for people like you and me to understand why because we are wired in a normal way. But trust me, people really to get turned on by giving themselves such names. The trick is though that we should not let this bother us, understand that they are a little less sophisticated than ourselves: maybe a kid (who are by definition immature) or one of the many adults who let their immature side rule when playing this game.

To be honest your post does kind of indicate that it is you that is insecure as a person. I notice more and more that people get annoyed when I beat them with a name like 'Jane' and just spam excuses but if I beat them with my clan tags and recognised nick they congratulate me. Personally I dont recognise a difference. If I beat you I beat you, why should the name matter? If you are a good sport you wont feel upset that you were beaten by an unknown rather than someone you'd expect to lose to.

For a similar reason I also fail to see the point of nicks like 'in training' or 'new mouse'. Again these are people who seem to feel the need to make excuses for their play. To be honest I just dont care whether you have a new mouse, or even a new cat. When I win, Im still proud and if I lose I will still give you a "WP mate"! The predictable responses are 'I lost because of my new mouse' or in the other case 'I have a new mouse and I still won!'. Predictable because the personality types who do this are well defined.

I might knock out a paper on online gaming psychology.

    Get over it!

A person's name should not be the determining factot wether you do good or bad, have fun or dont, leave or stay on a server. Just becuase there name is n00b on a server does not mean they are arrogant pricks. If they were arrogant pricks, they would talk smack after every kill they got, and make an excuse for every death they got!

I could care less if someone is aliasing or whatever. The only thing that bothers me is when players are pussies and feel the need to hide behind aliases to just abuse and ****-talk other players in the server.

I find it funny. When they get pwned they have to leave the server. Because by naming themselves noob/newbie/player they are trying to show off their 1337 skills, otherwise they look like they really are newbies.

Real newbies call themselves Killer, Neo or sometimes by their first name like sam, dave, mike, tom etc. :haha:

I believe Ultimate_Newb (or however he spells it) is a member of this forum, and uses that name here too. I've seen him online before using that name. He's pretty damn good. If it's the same guy, he's not aliasing.

BTW, for the record, I think aliasing is kinda dumb. I never do unless I'm messin around with clan mates or the guys I regulary play with. :weird: :haha:

Can't see what difference it makes personally

Are you saying that you adjust your skill according to the name of whomever is playing? Like you'll go easy on n00bs but harsh on 1337s? If you do, that is soooo patronising, if you don't, what's in a name? Get over yourself.

Does any of this alias stuff REALLY affect the game??

I don't get that upset when I'm constantly killed by anyone regardless of their name. If they're better than me, they're better than me. All I can do is keep playing until my play improves. That's all there is to it.
By getting all wound up you're only reducing your enjoyment of a good game.

yeah I get a bigger kick out of players who have so called hardcore names like "DeadBringer4u" or whatever... then they suck... Or even better, if they have sniper some where in their name, then can't aim well enough to do it..

only peeve I have with names is when someone has some joke or hook with the their name "they think" is sooooooooooooooo funny they say it or type it all the time.. Errrrr like say they are playing as err I'll just make something up, lets say it's "Apple"... then there so called funny hook is "I just planted my seed on you" or something like that.. Ok funny I guess the first 3 times, maybe.. errr but all game, every round, every kill!? blah..

I've always thought online names should be something dumb anyways, like mine.. I mean it's a cpu game, you are clearly a geek to be playing it, no one is looking at "Hardcore Killer" and thinking you are some sort of bad ass.....

One exception: Asia Carreras nick is "Mega*****goddess", but she is nonetheless sort of bad ass... well at least there aren't many players who happen to be erotic stars.

Im clanned and I dont put on my tags if im doing well, if there off in the first place. I also do take off my tags and alias as somebody so I can practice alone and not have people come into the server in which I will likely start talking to or they will drag me out of the server to do somthing else which I will regret later.
