No one knows.

I don't know, but I doubt it's one of our gods. The closest one would be Athena.

I was looking at it more closely and feel like it resembles ancient roman and greeks, but why would it have the CoG armor and also have robes underneath the armor and the man/woman is holding a sword, and not a lancer or some other gun?

Although, they do look like each other, I highly doubt it has to do with any actual person.

alexander the greatIt somewhat resembles him, but what would that have to do with Seran histroy?

It's supposed to be like the Lady Justice statues you see outside courthouses. Look at the wallpaper Epic released - the statue is holding scales in the other hand.

I'm guessing it's one of the All-Fathers of the COG

Obviously the Cogs were a secret organization during Roman times and Alexander the Great was a part of it explaining the statue.

Similar to this, one of my favorite parts of RAAM's Shadow is when you enter the gardens in front of city hall and it has COG-style statues of what looks like President John Adams.

Because I think people are still missing what the statue is supposed to be, I'll repeat.

This.

Remember, Kilo are facing a trial. In a court. The statue is holding the scales of justice.

This is our lady of justice

http://www.ladyjusticeworks.com/lady_20justice.jpg

notice the scales out front and the sword held down and back?

The image is reversed in the COG. Sword up and front, scales down and back.

Agreed. The Gears version is a lot more militant looking though, pointing the sword. She's more like a warrior queen, which I suppose is meant to say all sorts of things about the balance between mercy, justice and punishment/vengeance for the COG, with a definite emphasis on punishment. It also fits the idea of Baird's indictment, whihc we see in the trailer.

BTW your image of justice was taken from a statue above the gate into Dublin Castle :)

The one in Gears is wearing body armour. The one in real life wears only a cloth robe.

Dat symbolism.

I thought it was clear. What stood out immediately was the fact that she lacks the blindfold. What makes the COG and their judicial system a pretty merciless power. You already KNOW that you're going to lose, the moment you climb up the stairs.

Good point, personally I never noticed that.

Apparently Gears derives a lot from Greek mythology.

I agree with the above, it's definitely the Lady of Justice.

Good point. Missed that bit.

Wow, there's a lot of symbolism going on here from just one statue, huh?

EDIT: From Wikipedia:

Since the 15th century, Lady Justice has often been depicted wearing a blindfold. The blindfold represents objectivity, in that justice is or should be meted out objectively, without fear or favour, regardless of identity, money, power, or weakness; blind justice and impartiality.

Very interesting, when you consider that she isn't blind in Judgement.

So my theory is gaining momentum.

Now if only the RAAM and Skorge getting busy with Myrrah theory would gain as much positive feedback.

Not to mention the scales aren't balanced in the image.

Wow. Never noticed that, either. Nice spot. It implies that justice in the COG is somewhat biased. That further reinforces the idea that Kalypso put forward. :)

It also looks like the sword in the Gears version of the statue is broken. There's probably some meaning there, too - perhaps the COG isn't strong enough or smart enough yet to fight the Locust. So basically: 1. the statue isn't blindfolded - Kilo are screwed, 2. the scales aren't balanced - again, Kilo are screwed and 3. the sword is broken - meaning the COG and humans as a whole are screwed.

It's Sera's version of Lady Liberty. Not 100% sure but it's kinda obvious.
