View Full Version : How to make high-def metal materials?

First, I'm new to UT3 and materials/shaders, so please don't kill me if this is simple :P

Well, I made a metal texture that I want to turn into a material, but don't know how to make it reflect and shine like I want it to. I don't want it to be brand new-shiny, but I also don't want it to be flat and just look like concrete. What would you recommend I do to make my materials like that? I don't care how complex it has to go, I want the most realistic metal effect I can get.

Look for material made by epic, then copy node by node to your material. Do not uncook and duplicate it, do it hard way, you will learn stuff.

You'll have to create maps and tweak various other aspects... Making materials can get pretty complicated... Fortunately, there are many tutorials and examples. google is your friend...
