MP_Closure looks very good & play good as well. :)
MP_Docks, I like postprocess effect.
MP_Viaducts... hmm... no offfense but I dont like it :(

I though Viaducts was the best one, maybe not for playing but the concept was very good.

Thanks for the responses!

I personally like to think of level design as a never-ending experiment. For each of these maps I had a concept and I wanted to see how well the final product would work (both visually and gameplay-wise). Could you guys please tell me what you found didn't work out in Viaducts? It would really help me find what to look out for in the future.

The distribution of the map is more or less correct but there is some meshes that donĀ“t fit eachother for me. Well I said "not so good" but that is not so bad, I think so.

And you are right, it is a never-ending development experiment.

I played all three. I like Viaducts the most. Its the best looking, for me. Definitely can be tweaked as far as gameplay is concerned. Reminds me of raven down but a little more epic, with more potential. ;) Two things I hate: 1. cover where there shouldn't be any cover. 2. The tease of being able to get close to the rails. Nice job with the maps, looking forward to more. peace

Hmm, that's interesting. Viaducts was the last one I worked on, and I was hoping that I had improved and that it would, in fact, be the best of the three. However, I can see what theinterlock is saying. Mainly on the sidewalks on the sides, I can see that some of the meshes might not work as well as I had hoped. It is interesting though to see such stark contrasts in the differing viewpoints of that map.

Not quite sure what you mean by that. Are you talking about the rails on the side of the main road? In which case you can cover on all of those rails (unless I missed one). I think I'm misunderstanding something.

I guess filefront thought it'd be funny to delete my file or something. I have no idea why it disappeared, but I've uploaded it again and fixed the link accordingly.

Kind of a shameless bump... I've decided to abandon releasing a second map pack and have instead made the decision to release maps as I finish them. A new one should hopefully be coming very soon.

Ok i placed this maps in C:\Users\.....\Documents\My Games\Gears of War for Windows\WarGame\Published\CookedPC\Maps\CustomMaps .
What should i do to play them , couse i don't c them in Set Custom Cycle Menu where u can chose witch map u wanna play.

Unfortunately, there is no way to put custom maps into a map cycle. You can either open it from the console by pressing ~ and typing, "open mp_mapname." To play it online or on lan, you need to host a game and specify the map.

These are some of the first Custom maps I played on Gears. Certainly some great stuff from the early releases. It would be nice to keep the DL active for any newcomers if you are able to update the link.

Also, have you considered an online or offline Bot version of these Taffer?

There's an explanation behind this...

Basically, there are two people at my house right now (but keep in mind I am 17 so other people control things) who, for work-related things and others, use the internet long into the night. With my poor internet speed, it's pretty difficult to find the time to upload these large files onto the internet and to eat up the connection for such a long time.

Things are going to get cleared up early next week, and the internet will again be free for me to eat up with uploads. I have this Emergence Map Pack, MP_Station, and a new map called MP_Sacred ready to go, so I will upload those next week.

I'm also working on Lance versions of all five maps, as well as a sixth map (currently titled MP_PowerLines; think of that section right before you enter the factory and exit to fight the Brumak where all of the power lines and transformers and things are) which is not yet completed but is probably about 80% complete that I will try to get out in the days after that.

So hopefully, next week I will upload five maps (online versions), then in the week following or perhaps a week after that, I will upload a sixth map (online version) and re-release all six maps as offline Lance versions.

P.S. Also, really sad to hear about Kantham discontinuing Lance :(. What happened there?

FINALLY FIXED THE LINKS.

Same deal with MP Station, I have fixed the links here too (finally) and have also made offline Lance versions for you guys. I made a couple of small aesthetic changes to the maps, MP Closure in particular, but it's nothing major.

I have two more maps I plan to release in the future at the moment. When they're ready they'll both have lance versions to go along with them as well as multiplayer ones.

just played all 3 maps, they are great and a lot of gameplay fun, thx taffer!!;)

viaduct is my favorate , i love urban style, suited for 6 vs 6, map layout is perfect,
also it got a purple color atmosphere, maybe some people like this. and closure is yellow and dock is blue...

dock and closure seemed somewhat crowded, the map corridor and stairs is too narrow, i think,
just only for one person to go. this made bot often stick together and shoot each other,
and somrtimes i also stick with my wrentch at a narrow place and was shot dead by enemy,
also many times when the bot made a evade roll, he just roll in the same place, no move, since it's not wide enough
so i hope there're some wider corridor and cover place etc, in future maps.

you see this is a over shoulder 3rd person game, but many time i just see my gun like FPS,
because my back is stick on the wall, the the view angle change forward.
since it's too near and narrow corridor..:D
the lighting and shader in dock and closure looks like: there's a dark map ,but you want to see it clear,
so you turn the pc screen brightness too high to see it clear,
that's the similar effect i feel about the map shader, dark became strange grey, maybe some fix?

finally i should say i love these maps, a lot of cover place, tight battle, the building structrue is nice...
so i made this feedback to express my feelings, thx all your effort and just keep goning on man, cheers!!

some feedback for thought,

I have always enjoyed closure thats easily the best of the bunch with a close second to docks, but docks has some crowded issues with cover near the dock at the far end it has alot of unnecessary cover. the entire area should be joined it actually works out a ton better and gives it more fluency.

Yea I've found that people either seem to love Closure and Docks but not Viaducts, or vice versa.

I didn't see a problem with the brightness honestly when I released it, but I guess it's true that it's a lot darker than most Epic maps (save for the infamous Bullet Marsh, obviously) and I'll try to get around to releasing an updated and brightened version after I release my next map.

Yea I think I'm gonna attempt pursuing a professional level design career. Who knows if I'll get there but we'll see I suppose.

The crowded nature of the maps is definitely a concern. Some bits were by design, like the stairs on Closure that Darksin brought up, but I can see other bits simply becoming frustrating, like some of the close cover on Docks.

I'm really contemplating this now because in my next map (which is finished aside from some Kismet work) I have a graveyard portion of the map that is similar to Mausoleum, but I originally crowded that portion of the map on purpose for some gameplay reasons. I want to think about it a bit more but chances are I'll at least tone it down somewhat so you don't get this "FPS" Darksin is talking about.

I LOOOOOOOVE the Thief games :) I wasn't a fan of the third one but the first two are among my favorite games ever!
