Note: There is a problem with the PS3 cooks that have mutator menus. You can find a version without the menu in this thread.

Once I get more of my machines up and running with UT3 my brother and I will be taking some crazy screenshots of chained up 'boards. It should be possible to tow an entire team behind a fast vehicle, haha.

Just make sure you extract to "My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame". Published might not be there at first - just create it if it isn't there (the zip extract should do this automatically).

You should add an option to remove the damage you get while latched to an allied vehicle that's moving to fast (ramming you into walls).

I was actually playing around with the collision response junk a while ago. The next release should also make it harder to disconnect players being towed. Anyone have any tips on making a config UI for a mutator?

I wouldn't mind a few wall slides or other advanced moves, not quite the variety of Tony Hawks or anything but the ability to grind the scenery a bit using your momentum. In the game, if you crouch and press left or right, you can spin around when you release crouch. This makes me think that Epic were going to add more functionality to the board but didn't get around to it.
If that's too much of a task then how about double clicking forward for some rocket power?

I was experimenting with some ways to deal damage with the 'board but it's getting late and the current board is quite fun to play with as-is :D
Please let me know your ideas & any issues you have with the Überboard!

Hi Cham,I know this one is hard but for my sugestion/idea is... Use a weapon(s) while on the hoverboard,and to balance it better let us only use the Rocket Launcher.
So please remember if you manage to do that just let us use the RocketLaunch it would be very FUN with just it.

dag beat me to the punch, ooh well. I was going to have just the balance system, heh, not the towing and map additions.

If I may make a suggestion, the system I implemented had a threshold, and an accumulated amount of damage. The accumulated amount of damage would reset itself if whoever was pegging the boarder took to long to hit them each consecutive time.

about the weapon suggestion: maybe you can use the primairy-fire to connect to vehicles, and the alt-fire to fire a link gun alike beam [or a plasma shield thingy], straight ahead
this way the hover/uber board gets a high tactical value and you wont be completely defenseless on a hoverboard

We were discussing something like this a while back, but we never hit on the point that you could use the alt fire to shoot it. Great idea!


If I may make a suggestion, the system I implemented had a threshold, and an accumulated amount of damage.
Mine uses a percentage of your health (right now its about 40%). As you get weaker it makes it easier to knock you off.

PS: I haven't been working on the mutator very much because I've been doing finals for the past week. If anyone could help me out with some info on mutator UIs or if anyone wants to check out my source files, just let me know.

I'm also waiting for the flipping Linux client to come out so I don't have to reboot every time I want to work on it.

I was glad to help. It's a great mod :)

One suggestion if you do figure the config stuff. It would be real fun to play Warfare and VCTF maps with the hoverboard only. In fact, I know I'd much rather play the VCTF maps without the other vehicles (maybe I'm weird--lol). Could be this is the way to configure the mutator by default, so that Hoverboard is enabled for all maps and translocator and all other vehicles disabled. Then it becomes the Überboard UT3 gametype!

BTW: I understand about finals. I don't take 'em. I give 'em and grade 'em ;) Best of luck!

I don't think so, the mutator uses the following to turn on the hoverboard for any gametype:

AFAIK it doesn't, because my mutator works great on DM maps, etc. Best of luck, keep me updated if you figure it out!

I added this mutator to my server with additional muts and everytime I switch to the uberboard it sends me out to space, me floating around...must be a conflict with the other muts im using.

Good news!
It turns out that it does work on my map after all. I hope you didn't lose any sleep over this issue.

When you publish a map for the first time, it deletes everything in your "published" folder, which included the Uberboard script, however, the uberboard config file was still in the "config" folder, so it still showed up as a mutator, it just didn't do anything, because there was no script there.

I've re-installed it and it works fine.

I'm definitely thinking about it! It's a little tough to work with U3 right now because some of interesting the functions run in the engine itself, where you can't modify them. For instance, the stuff that searches for points you can hook up to on the hoverboard is coded into the engine (as far as i could see), which shot down a few of my ideas.

Originally I had the idea that a player doing stunts could land headshot damage on someone, but it turned out that its REALLY tough to land a hit when you're doing a stunt.

I'm considering using the beam to do things like cut other player's heads off or something like that, along with better control when you're being towed. If anybody has suggestions or ideas, let me know! This thread would be a great place to brainstorm.

Why not, it might be fun...

Perhaps you could make if a configurable mutator, so people who don't want the ability to fire weapons can disable it, while those who do can enable it.

On any game it could oly be one way or the other, so this would not imbalance the game at all.

I wasn't planning on letting users shoot all the weapons from the hoverboard, it would be a lot of work and probably would unbalance the game like crazy. I said a little something about making grapples work differently, but theres a few issues code-wise with how that would happen. Epic programmed the grapple search stuff into the engine itself where you cant access it, so if I were to re-write in Unrealscript I have a feeling it would be too slow or laggy. I'm definitely going to look into that though.

Look into PS3 compatibility (especially when Epic releases the editor update)
Figure out how the configuration works for mutators in U3
Come up with a balanced, fair way for 'board riders to do damage

Hey, thanks for cooking it! I've been a bit behind over the holidays so I had no idea the PS3 cooker was out. :P


You can't shoot weapons or anything, just the link between board or boards and vehicles is an instant kill, or does something like 100 damage.

That's what the general consensus is. I'm probably going to have it knock heads off because it looks quite cool in UT3.

The next release (due out in a week or less) ought to have the damage stuff and be cooked properly. Thanks again D4rkW4rr10r!

D4rkW4rr10r packaged the first PS3 build, but v0.2 and up includes a PS3 build in the main download.

"Hoverboard deathmatch" is an interesting idea. I'm going to be working on the damage-dealing aspect of the 'board for the next release. Also, the new configure screen should let me keep most of the exotic features in and still appeal to most players because they can just disable the junk they don't want or need.

Thanks for the update going to test it on the PS3 when I get home. I will let you know if the config screen works on the PS3. Some mutators' custom config screen been showing up blank, causing freezing in the PS3 or not able to show up at all.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll be looking into it. I have a feeling it affects more than a few mod authors, since the tools aren't officially released or anything yet. If anybody figures out why this happens, be sure to let me know!

Ventuz I overwrote the old version on the PS3. It shows up on the mutator list. That is odd. I am going to delete it and try again to make sure.

chameleon I know why ur ps3 version doesn't work properly (doesn't show up in the ps3 mod menu).

The reason is that you made the "PS3-UTGame.ini" like this:

But the code in red isn't allowed in "PS3-UTGame.ini".
I cooked many Mutators for PS3 now and I found out that having such custom code makes the mutator invisible after importing it onto PS3.
Therefore people can import it but it isn't on the list.

When I cook stuff I always remove this custom code blocks.
Otherwise the mutators never show up on PS3 after importing.
Unfortunatly some mutators need that code to run and removing it disables there functionality.

To make ur mutator work the "PS3-UTGame.ini" must look like this:

As long as you have the following, the mutator should be working. Even if you remove that stuff, the unrealscript saves the config options back into the ini.

I had it set up to do this a long time ago but it was nearly impossible to land a trick on somebody.

The mod isn't dead, I've just put it on the backburner for now. The PS3 version is all screwed up because I have no clue how to cook it and still keep the stupid mutator config (somebody let me know if anyone ever figures this one out).

Anyone is welcome to base their mods off this or add new features, just make sure to drop a post here and let me know so I can see what cool stuff people are making with it :D

Love the uberboard, a buddy of mine has an early version.

When I would try to use my board... it was like I was in spectator mode and my keys mapped differently or some other input problem. The only other mutator I had installed was gibolicious. Once I deleted uberboard, the bug went away.

Love the uberboard, a buddy of mine has an early version.

I've personally ran my build with gibalicious and I know for sure that they are compatible. Try running the latest version that I built from this thread.

Still no joy. The import seemed to go okay, though the unpacking seemed to take a long time. After the import, the uberboard mod wasn't listed as being imported.

What are you unpacking/importing? If you're using a PS3, please note that I don't have any way to support PS3 users at this time. Sorry :(

Yeah, there is a version floating around that doesn't have the mutator config screen cooked in -- that's probably why mine doesn't load. On PC all versions that I've released so far work with the 12 or so mutators I have installed right now.

The latest one just fixes a little bot translocator problem and adds customizable stuff that the mutator screen controls, so you aren't missing much, lol.

What exactly did you do? My mod just turns all the Hoverboards into Uberboard instances and flips on the hoverboard toggle and a bot switch or two. I'm not really sure why you're getting a crash, maybe you can give me some more details?

I will try and be more thorough. I will have to test it some more but what I can tell you at this time is I was playing the Uberboard mod with the Spawn no Mask (Armored) character and when I would try to switch to the hoverboard it would freeze up. The first time there was some weird tube graphic on the screen but that only happened once. Then if I would press the Q again to switch back things would pop back to normal after a brief (1 minute) pause or the game would crash. Out of curiosity I loaded up another character and everything worked fine. I am going to test again using a different custom character and try the regular hover board with the Spawn character and I will post my results.

Update. The uberboard works fine with other custom characters it's just the Spawn character that doesn't seem to work. Spawn doesn't work with the regular hoverboard either so it's not the Uberboard but the Character that is causing issues. Sorry for the trouble. Superlative mod by the way. Can't wait for the ablility to use weapons while riding the board.

I found the issue and feel pretty darn stupid. It is all in where I added lines to the custom character ini. Case closed people.

I had it set up to do this a long time ago but it was nearly impossible to land a trick on somebody.

The mod isn't dead, I've just put it on the backburner for now. The PS3 version is all screwed up because I have no clue how to cook it and still keep the stupid mutator config (somebody let me know if anyone ever figures this one out).

Anyone is welcome to base their mods off this or add new features, just make sure to drop a post here and let me know so I can see what cool stuff people are making with it :D

Thanks! If you're working on your own, you'll need to do more than override IsGoodTowTruck (that's just for bots). To add an attach point set this in your defaultproperties:\


HoverBoardAttachSockets(0)="RearCenterThrusterSocket"

You could of course use a different socket but the rear thruster is in a perfect place. You can also use the defaultproperties to set stuff like speed and jumping variables. In NotifyDriverTakeHit you can see how I made it harder for a player to get knocked off the board:

The first stage of my endeavor is just to combine all the mods we use on our clan server into a single mod. This will make launching the server easier (we have to reboot at least twice a day) Also we'd like to eliminate the "out of body experience" problem that occurs on the ps3 when the player has Uberboard installed and joins a server that uses it too. Hopefully having this custom implementation will eliminate conflicts with the real Uberboard. If it does, maybe I'll release a stand-alone "Uberboard-PS3-ServerEdition" for other hosts who want it.

this is just a warning note for the ps3 people

i really dont know but the uber board is awesome for the ps3 but dont use it with the gametype all over dm because it will get stuck with loading and you have to install all over dm again but in other modes just as regular deathmatch it works fine so keep up the good work

Trying to get this again, after a PC crash left me losing a lot of Mods/Mutators :( Got back at least 98% of UT3 stuff, which I'm happy with :)...But can't find a good working link to the Uberboard. Would somebody be so kind ....Please! ;)
