View Full Version : What game types can support no spawns?

Cliffy has suggested that he doesn't want respawning in multiplayer - it changes the pace of play and makes cover largely irrelevant. For example, if I know myself and my buddies will respawn in 10 seconds, why fart about ducking and diving? Why not run at the enemy and wear them down?

Ergo, low to no spawn rates. I say low - I'm not sure if anyone has confirmation - but I heard Cliffy was against spawns full stop. However I think 1 minute re-spawns would be suitable, especially if the game type justified it ("Infestation" below).

Now, the question is, what game types does this leave us?

I don't think we can have anything that involves repeated entries to an enemy "base" - any successful attempt into the enemy base would mean the enemy is almost certainly dead - and therefore end of round.

Team Deathmatch has been confirmed, so what else? Do we need to look at CS for inspiration?

Escort; escort a person or object ("escort the women!") from point A to point B. Perhaps the VIP could even be a weaponless player, a la CS.
Bomb the base; Escorting a bomb which needs to be picked up and dropped (and while holding you can't jump into cover?) until you get it to the target in the enemy base. Need multiple entrances to the enemy base to make this viable.
Infestation; NPC controlled or player opposition locusts have burst into a compound you need to liberate. Get in there and exterminate them. Locust players have X lives on SLOW respawn. Respawn with random locust model to encourage the "horde" mentality.
Rescue / Recovery; This time, you have to get to your VIP (someone to rescue or an object) inside the compound back to your start point - or kill all the locust on the way.

i highly doubt there will be no escort in MP. cliffy said it that there are none of those missions in SP, so putting one in MP is kinda contradicting what he said.

i have a lot of confidence in epic so im sure they wont screw the MP up and i kinda like the fact that there are no respawns because it adds more strategy to the game and your actually paying more attention to your surroundings and the gameplay is short and sweet.

I like the idea of no spawns since it adds a unique twist on certain gameplay modes, and i'm confident epic will do a good job with it, and maybe they will make some completely unique game modes for GoW that will make it awesome.

You're missing the point of this post chaps - lets put some ideas of FUTURE game types for epic. It's way to late for anything to get into release other than the existing Last Man Standing; I'm talking about the expansion for multiplayer that will come a few months later.

What would make fun gametypes for GOW's model?

Time Attack Mode: NPC = non player controlled PC = player controlled
Mode I
a team of 4 set out in a random stage to eliminate a team of NPC or PC Horde, but they only have X amount of time to do it. If they finish under the set time limit, then the next round they have less estimated time to do it in, this goes for both teams for instance, if Team I has 10:00 min to eliminate Team II and they do it in 8:00 min then their next time limit would be 7:00, but if Team II wins round II their time would go lower depending on the amount of time it took them to eliminate Team I.

Mode II:
teams of 4, each player as they survive racks up points for their team, if only 1 person from each team are left at the end, and time runs out, then both teams tie. Teams will gain points based on how long their team members last.

I HATE escort missions, I hope they don't put that in multiplayer. My idea for a cool mulitplayer variant of team deathmatch would involve the Hammer of Dawn (The huge laser, correct me if I'm wrong). You could win this game by either eliminating the opposing team through your basic arsenal of weapons or use the Hammer of Dawn to obliterate your enemy. To obtain the ability to use the Hammer of Dawn each team would need to obtain two of Three devices scattered in places of little cover or sniping alleys. Once your team has at least two of these devices you can then use it to track your enemy's location and oblitertate them.

Does anyone know if there will be vehicles in multiplayer? If so that would make the whole no respawn thing a bit tough but could add many new game types.

i dont think so ,but, ive been gone for a while so i could be wrong

Some great ideas there Shay and Dark. Like the idea of something being constructed - getting to the components would work well with the cover system.

The time attack idea sounds cool too. I love the concept of NPC's to fight against, especially since it will deal with the limit of two players in traditional co-op.

I would love a bomb gametype, but you'd need 2 bombsites like in CS or COD2.
