In the settings, what is the difference between software 3D audio and hardware?

I have a Soundblaster Live card with 2 satellites and a sub.

Which setting would be better?

Thanks

then the best is hardware music because you have a video card
if you have no videocard but you have software to play music with then you haveto chose for software music

Ty..i had it on that setting before but for some reason all the sounds were distorted (had it on that setting for months). When I went to software mode it was better. Someone has been messing with my settings or something..

Thanks

if you have a high-end audio card (audigy) then hardware mode will have all the audio calculations done by the dsp on the sound card, leaving the cpu free for ai computations and other things. But if you have a sb live, i would suggest software mode bc the live will not be able to keep up with all the sound needed. But the software sound in ut2003 in particular is much better than the hardware, even on a good sound card. i have an audigy and saw a ~5-10 fps increase after going to software sound.

Okay,

that sounds good, but what about the setting: hardware 3D plusEA?

The sound seems a little more intense with hardware but sometimes it sounds somewhat off...
