Hi there!

We have just released our mod as a public beta test for everyone to enjoy! The mod adds a twist of RPG to UT2003, you have a permanent character (saved and playable across all our servers), and is based on a points system. You get points for your frags, and when you have earnt enough you gain a level. You are then given permanent upgrades to your character (and in future releases you can choose them to suit yourself). The players across all our servers can be ranked against each other, so you have the incentives of getting stronger, and being the best - the King of the Server!

Check out a full review on us at http://www.game2xs.com (they are hosting a UK server for us and are great to work with!) - and check out our site at http://www.planetunreal.com/kots/

So the guy with the highest level is basically unbeatable due his stats?

LOL.. Was looking at your URL :P Kots means Puke in Holland :D

Oh well.. Ontopic :)
Adding some RPG to UT2003 is always welcome ;)

Download the installer package for the beta here (http://home.wanadoo.nl/ignatius/KotS/KotSEdmond.exe).

The guy with the highest level will be hard to beat, but, if you do beat em, you'll get A LOT of points for it.

Like a dragon is hard to slay but is worth a lot of experience. Think RPG :)

VoiDs server is US

we are looking for larger US hosts

Beta 1.1 (Edmond Jr) was released yesterday, get it here (http://home.wanadoo.nl/ignatius/KotS/KotSEdmond.exe).

And 1.2 is already on my harddisk, needs some more testing and little tweaks, then Edmond the 2nd (or Bernard, not sure) will be available for download.

Changes include a much improved auto login system that is capable of remembering multiple characters, an automatic login prompt for those who do not use this feature, and servers remembering what players were on the previous game, and not requiring login if they rejoin within 30 seconds.

And a bunch of security improvements, a bugfix in the score calculating argorithm (to most people's advantage!), and 3 verbose levels instead of two, and and and and... :)

legacy-HbG
12-30-2002, 08:29 PM
Beta 1.2 ready, get it over there ;) (http://home.wanadoo.nl/ignatius/KotS/KotSEdmondII.exe)

Not all servers updated yet btw.

legacy-HbG
01-02-2003, 06:31 PM
And we're up to 1.3!

http://home.wanadoo.nl/ignatius/KotS/KotSJohnDoe.exe

http://home.wanadoo.nl/ignatius/KotS/KotSJohnDoe.zip
for server admins and advanced users (small)

Check out the KotS Website (http://www.planetunreal.com/kots/) for the changelog and more info.

1.4 will have bigger changes, as in the whole menu, player aura's and possibly an on-player level indicator. Might also implement direct client-gds communication.

acc, Im just a little slow with updating my machine. Been a bit busy lately :)

DrunkenMaster, Try updating UT2K3 to patch 2166. I was running 2136 with version 1.2. With 1.3 I got a similar error about GUI Pages and Butons. I installed 2166 and it fixed everything. Visit the KotS Forums if you are still having problems, and we'll do our best to help you out. :)

there was a problem with the website, this has been solved now where it was making you download 1.2 not 1.3

sorry all is correct now

legacy-toolboi

Do you get more points for killing a stronger apponent? Clearly if you are a level 1 and you kill a level 15 you should get more points than if you kill a level 2. Otherwize this game would become a "I killed you in the begining so now you can not touch me" type of game.

legacy-UT-Slaine
01-04-2003, 08:48 PM
yes you get more points for killing a higher level opponent

legacy-DrunkenMaster
01-05-2003, 05:26 AM
Whee I got it working! Thanks, Slaine!
Wish the xp system was damage based so that 'not-so-good' players like me could get xp a bit easier. ;)

legacy-UT-Slaine
01-05-2003, 06:00 AM
np mate, err all you have to do is kill, if you kil the higher levels you get more points, you doing lose points for being killed by someone higher than you, that should make it easier

legacy-gilm0re
01-05-2003, 06:50 AM
Just a smidge of a problem...

Not matter what I do, i always get a 'password incorrect', I change it, still incorrect...Kind of frustrating.

legacy-UT-Slaine
01-05-2003, 07:25 AM
what is your char name?

if you are a new player your password will be 'newpass'

i want to know what you think of the mod, comments please

legacy-DrunkenMaster
01-06-2003, 02:51 AM
I liked it.

But since you gain levels so slowly and always don't even notice when you got one it can get a little boring. Personally I'd like a system more, where after gaining a level you go see a menu where's skills that you can upgrade. Like you could have a little better accuracy in the beginning and regeneration in the end. But all the skills could have levels, too. So that you can upgrade always the one skill you like and get better at it. Some of the skills would of course be better than the others so they are gotten later or one skill point in them doesn't count that much.

Just what I thought.

legacy-UT-Slaine

thanks for your reply.

Ur first point about not noticing gaining a level and wanting to know ur upgrades will be address hopefully in the next version.

Ur 2nd point about the upgrades, phase 1 of our development only has lineir upgrades, the next phase we are going to develop a system where you can choose your upgrades so yuo can specialise where you want, making every char individual

We making good progress on the KotS in game menu for version 1.4, but im not sure if i've included everything. Here's the plan:

The menu will be tabbed, like the settings menu and the ingame server browser. The tabs are as follows:

Options tab:
Option to show debug information
Option to disable graphical login
Option to disable autologin
Button to clear stored passwords/users
Button to clear stored password for current user
Button to relogin with a different nickname
Button to bring up Change Password window
Option Enable/Disable T2 style jetpack / dodge style cloak toggle (not sure on that one yet)

Stats page:
View your own global stats, Stats for current server, and Stats for current game,

Help page:
Mac's guides

Irc page:
Connect to #kots on irc.hashnet.org using the in game IRC client. (only if its not too much of a hassle.)

Binds page, will allow you to setup keybinds for:
KotSInfo
KotSLogin console prompt key
KotSChangePassword console prompt key
KotSDebug console prompt key
KotSFly toggle
KotSFly on
KotSFly off
KotSCloak toggle
KotSCloak on
KotSCloak off
KotSVersion

With console prompt key, i mean that key will bring up the console prompt with the command already filled out, like pressing T will bring up the console prompt with "say" already filled out, this means that, when graphical login is disabled, you press that key, type the password, press enter and you're good to go :)

Button to login with a different nickname will be a drop down menu showing all characters currently stored in user.ini, or you can enter a new one. (will automatically be added to the list and stored)

When is this new version being released?

I have been told by the development team a few weeks.

legacy-DrunkenMaster
01-07-2003, 09:41 AM
Are there any gameplay differences ?
Just wondering :)

legacy-UT-Slaine
01-07-2003, 11:29 AM
yes the gameplay changes are

* T2 - style jetpack
* make sure no points are gained when suiciding straight after a kill
* fix combo scoring bug
* make bots not count for sprees and multikill counters

Those are the direct ones to gameplay, there are a few other fixes behind the scenes

nothing's has decided on balance tweaks yet

Looks pretty easy-to-use. Good work!

And what are T2 style jetpacks ?
I don't understand the T2 part.

legacy-UT-Slaine
01-09-2003, 10:32 AM
T2 = Tribes 2

the way that will work it you press jump, you jump, press it twice, you doublejump, keep it pressed, jetpack kicks in

you press jump again and the jetpack will turn off

legacy-DrunkenMaster
01-10-2003, 01:39 AM
Oh, Tribes :D

Sounds simple. But it raises a question, since some of the maps are indoor only and the use of jetpack might be very little therefore, are you going to do own maps to KoTS in the future ?

legacy-UT-Slaine
01-10-2003, 07:21 AM
We will be having custom maps only if someone offers to make some for us, we will always keep the standard maps in there for new players so they are familier with the maps when they start

---------------------------------

Please read our latest press release

We are proud to announce that Team Nightbreed is going to be working closely alongside TrodKnee, the developer of UnrealGod.

His mod for UT1 provided a truly unique single & multiplayer role playing experience, battling co-op against levels full of monsters, or against another player in the role of Dungeon Master, who had the ability to lay out traps & fiends throughout the map in the hope of defeating the party of adventurers battling against him. With custom weapons, player upgrades, an inventory system, and the ability to posess the monsters and fight as them - his beta mod is awesome!

We had wanted to develop KotS into the simple and addictive mod we had for Quake 2, and then to expand it into a more immersive role playing game. With our combined teams we have the ability to do this far more effectively than previously imagined. TrodKnee has a spectacular vision for UnrealGod when combined with our global data system - allowing his role-players to battle it out with dungeon masters on any server using their persistantly stored character, barter with other players for rare items and runes, and engage in unique quests with random seeding combined with scripted scenarios.

King of the Server & UnrealGod... providing the first MMOFPS experience in UT2003? :o)

Hope you all stay tuned..

if you have any questions regarding that please post here and i will do my best to answer

Hey, call me stupid but I didn't know where to find this forum before now :)

The indoor maps are actually large enough to use the jetpack in quite well. Nearly all of Q2's maps were indoors and it was fine there. It's easy to fly up to nice advantages like superarmor and nab it, giving you the edge on other people. Plus you can use flight for combat advantage, you can disorient dumb opponents like me quite easily :)

And yeah, that press release is the dogs.. :D

We are all proud to say that that our latest version 1.4 has hit the streets. It is the product of 3 weeks hard work and I hope you see it shows in the product!

There is now a menu system for everything you need - managing your characters, changing your preferences, viewing even more stats for your character, setting all the key binds for the KotS powers, and on-screen help in the game.
To help you see how you're progressing, the amount of points you gained are included in the messages when you kill, and losses when you die.
There are some changes to the balance of the game... resist gave you about 3x more health than vampire, yet came before, so we have changed the values and the order of the upgrades (check the guide page for specifics).
We have also added the first of my customizations - some sounds for the jetpack & cloak.
The hud and score-table are also tweaked, showing the level of your opponents in the score table, and showing your points (x10) in place of frags on your hud. To keep the compatability with other mods out there such as ut2vote, we can't touch the hud code properly as yet...
The jetpack & cloak can now be activated without binds - holding down jump for a short time will set the jetpack going, pressing jump again will turn it off. And a quick double-crouch will activate and de-activate the cloaking. In testing this proved very popular with me, it's a great control system :o)

The new build is running on all the servers except Game2xs which will be updated tomorrow. You will be able to get the mod from the servers as you join them until we have it on all servers and provide the installer.

Hope this lets you enjoy the game some more! See you on the servers to check it out.
